Skiing is getting gay lately. I'm not getting the same positive feeling out of it lately. There's a lot of negative attitudes and backbiting and it's getting annoying. Skiing is getting gay lately.

well i think its time to give up the sport if you dont get a positive vibe from it, and it might help to just go riding by yourself a couple times, maybe next pow day, take a solo day and just realise what skiing is all about, not the cliques or who is the coolest, but what skiing is all about, and even if that doesnt give you a positive vibe its time to hang up ya boots

I'm not bashing skiing or anyone on this forum, so don't take it personally. I'm just saying that it's not fun anymore to go in the park and try to have fun. Like 2-3 years ago, everyone was all positive and supportive. If you learned a new trick, people would congratulate you. Now, everyone is really gay about things. I'm not the best skier, but I'm pretty good. Just the other day, I fell on a rail and this whole group of dumbass little kids that thought they were hot stuff came up to me and my friends and started making fun of us. I just thought that was really stupid. I think skiing is going in the wrong direction.

There's all these little cocky assholes in the park. They dont ski for fun. They ski for bragging rights/status/to say 'I'm better than you.' I just think this is crap. We need to be more like surfing, and have a more positive attitude towards eachother and the sport.

He does have a point about the park. The stupidest thing I've seen is at one of the locals where the park is right underneath the main chairlift so assholes yell shit when you fuck up, as if they'd ever set foot in the park or try what you're trying. Gotta learn to ignore the bastards I guess... but it's hard.

i agree that the type of people you are describing are really lame and make it a little gay when in the aprk, but i would never go so far as to say that skiing is getting gay. Skiing can't get gay cuz nothing is more fun and exciting than skiing. i don't give a fuck about what others think or say. I ski for my own happiness and personal progression, not any one else. But the other thing is that although it is a sport, to me skiing is life, and you may say i have no life but i could image doing nothing more kickass than skiing everyday. Skiing's FUN!!

It'll get better in the next couple years, as soon as some more skiers come out with totally different styles than what the norm is right now. As soon as there is a little more diversity going on.

flatspin 720 that is the fucking truth, i remember talking to my friend and realising that i would rather be poor but ski everyday and day at 35 then live to be an old fuck who never gets to ski, maybe its an immature way to look at it, but i wouldnt wanna be involved with any other sport, ya it has its dicks on a fucking website and some little jerk offs in the park, but when you meet the real people involved with the sport and who have absolute dedication, theres no better people in the world to be around

different resorts have different vibes, alta is super chill, everyones nice, even like the local pros and shit, umm snowbird on the other hand has its real dicks, but whatever, you goin skiing to ski, not to worry about making friends and shit

Yeah last year these really cocky skier dudes who could only do rails well, really narked on my because I was learning rails at the time. I saw em jump, and it was pretty haggard shit, but I didn't make fun of them like they did for me. You just have to put yourself above all that stupid shit and go out there and SKI! Skiing will never get gay just because some little shit with a doo rag thinks its cool to nark on you for duffing on a rail. Skiing is all about you and yourself, out there, doing what you want to do, pushing yourself, and taking yourself to where you want to be. Dont let some punkass kids bring you down, they just aren't mature enough to be above that level.

its not so much the kids that wanna be like tanner that's a problem, hell i wanna be like tanner. I dont go around copying his gorilla style, wearin do rags (which are absolutely retarted in my opinion), or going skiing in alaska with a boombox in my backpack. The problem is when kids try to copy other skier's portrayed 'badass' image. Pics in magazines and clips in movies kinda make skiers like tanner and CR look like badasses so kids think its cool. but in real life i'm sure that Tanner is a really cool person who just dresses with hiphop style.

if you are so concerned about how people are acting then that is your problem man. i'm not trying to be a dick but you should just not let it affect you. you are going to come across a lot of people like that in life, not just in skiing. you just have to learn to deal with it and shrug it off. you can't let people like that ruin your love for skiing, that's absurd.

also another thing that i have a problem with is all these haters. a lot of people replying to this post are like 'ya man, don't worry about. but what really pisses me off is kids with du rags.' if you are hating on kids with rags then you are just as bad as the kids who think they are the hotness. there is no reason to hate on people's style, so what if they are rocking a bandana, it's not affecting you, they like what they're wearing, there is no reason to hate.

I don't get annoyed by it but it makes me wonder of the skill of those snowboarders who laugh at you before you hit a jump or yell something out to screw you up...It's not all boarders cause I know some really cool ones but it's usually the ones that look under 10. They get their attitude from snowboard magazines or Sims adds trying to bash skiers.

Ya dudes, I ski in Noth Western Ontario, so its not like its a total talent pool, but out of the 5 or 6 (we all ride together) pretty decent skiers I always win the local comps, and its not like I'm goin with a kill instinct I just enter for the free shit. Generally were all cool with what we do and always give props to who deserves it. But 2 of them have those I'm better then you attittudes, and there always competing, and if they can't burn the rest they go after the guys that are just learning or new peeps like university students who have just come here, and i can see the negative impact on every body, when they're acting like that I dont even wanna ride anymore. So i guess my point is this sport is about having fun, so go out and have it and if some cocky lil fuck is being a fag just ignore them or make friends with someone that can put them to shame with out saying a word. PS rock on snowbird4life I would rather be a poor ski bum at 35 then a millionair who can never ski

here is the ultimate solution to your problem, and it has been said many times on this thread.... stop whining and do this stuff because its fun, who gives a damn what other people say about you or what your doing, do you think any of this newschool skiing stuff would have ever happened if every skier that originally went in the park left because some snowboarder bashed on them.. the answer is no. stick up for yourself, and stop whining about it.

I think skiing is full of more assholes then any other sport. (Its also a really rich sport, so its all the stuck up rich people) Unlike basicly anything. Its wicked expensive and most rich people suck.

Thats the way things are. Its been like that forever. wont change, unless skiing gets like free. lol.

Last year I had a situation with some cocky snowboarders. It was me and my friend geoff (massive massing) and we were just hitting the tables. Then one of the group of like 15 cocky snowboarders comes up and was like hey skier, do a backflip. Then he turns to his friends and they all laugh and high five or what ever. Hahaha.. then geoff skied down and did one, showing all them up. I was still at the top and they all just shut up after that. Good Times.

Were you at Squaw? Sometimes the locs there can be asses just for fun. I have learned to just let it roll. It doesn't affect me so why should I care. Also ski with some friends so when the twelve year old park rats start making fun of you, you can threaten to beat their asses or something to shut them up.

On a different note, I was up at alpine the other day, and it may have just been that the park wasn't that crowded, but everyone was pretty chill. Everyone was doing their own thing and not really calling anyone else out. Some days are just bad.
