Living in Whistler (next year)

Anyone live in Whistler (not locals, but like people who have moved there and are renting) this season or planning on doing it next? Where's the best place to look for a place to stay? Is it going to be mad difficult to get a place next season? I know there will be lots of people here for Feb, but I doubt the entire season will be out of control, so it should be possible to get a place I think.

My other thought was to go to Revelstoke or maybe Nelson; anyone have tips for those places?

ya, the olympics kinda worried me, but I was thinking if I'm in a place all season, it's not legal to kick me out for like a month, and I don't think that many tourists will be there for more than like just february, but that was kinda one of my questions.

paone, you say move in asap... do you think it would be really difficult to find a place I could get for just November or December through March or so? That's what I was hoping for. Not sure how realistic it is, but I'd rather be able to save up living at home, instead of having a large chunk of each pay check go to rent/food.

thing is of the little housing there is it fills up fucking fast so the earlier you try and find a place the higher chance ull get one

not gonna happen bud.

find a place this spring and sign a year lease, pretty much your only option.

i'll still be living here next winter but i live in whistler housing authority so im real lucky. i have mad cheap rent that hardly ever goes up and i never have to leave.

If you aren't signing a 1 year lease, then you get into a grey area regarding the legality of your landlord kicking you out. In order to be safe, sign a 1 year lease. I have heard of some people saying their place is available to rent, but the month of February is not. There are a ton of people trying to cash in on the Olympics.

Oh, and December-March is peak season, every season. Getting a place for just those months in the best of years is difficult and expensive.

ok, thanks. it is more expensive on one hand, but it's still cheaper overall than a whole year (I will live at home and have free rent and food when I'm not there). Ill keep all this in mind and maybe aim my efforts more towards Revy, or maybe somewhere else. I'd like to mainly ski pow, but I do really like the option of a park as I'm better at it, and enjoy it a lot.

Real estate law isn't my area of focus, but from what I understand it's really a mess trying to kick out a tenant who doesn't want to go in this province. Just getting a writ of possession seems like it would be quite a nuisance.

But if the tenant isn't living there legally in the first place (which definitely happens in Whistler) then who is in the right? I have to brush up on my residential real estate law, but I remember it being a mess in a situation like this.

I don't think it's a problem every other year, but just with the Olympics this time round, I'd rather be safe and have a proper 1 year lease, than sorry.

yo man me and my 1 other friend for sure and probs a couple others are all gonna move up from van to either whis or revelstoke next year so were pretty much in the same boat as you
