Replying to SHIN BANG CURE! gawt damnnn
ok, so i see all of these threads looking for a miracle cure to the shin bang that they have been plagued with for forever. i myself had the same problem up until a few years ago, and as you all are more than willing to admit, its borderline unbearable.
so whats the deal with this? why is it that every single time you land on your heels it feels like your shins are about to shatter in seven places? i determined that regardless of what boots you ski in, it comes down to one thing: movement of your calf in the cuff of your boot.
now, if your your calf is able to move in your boot, you get whatever room there is there to act as leverage on a bone that is in no way capable of flexing (i.e. the shin). that kind of leverage puts serious stress on your shin and the muscle that lies on top of the shin.
the majority of shinbang issues are coming from this leverage, and therefore reducing the ability for this to occur would effectively reduce shinbang, how to do this? get rid of that gap in the cuff. its not a question of full tilt boots, two buckle systems, or cable latching. it comes down to a tight power strap.
get yourself a booster strap up top. itll allow you to fine tune the top of your boot cuff in a way that a powerstap just cant, and help eliminate that gap and give you the ability to land on your heels on a reasonably steep landing without falling over in pain. ive been through all of this on my own, and this has been my personal fool-proof plan.
theres been enough of these thread that i thought id do my best to give my best input as to how to potentially solve this problem that plagues skiers worldwide. good luck all!
