100% agree, all of the other Wallisch wannabes have nothing to offer to to the next Level 1 movie, just look at Brogan, nothing contributed because no one will ever be as dope as Wallisch. This year Matt is where it is at, we all want to see dope BC riders.
First off his edit was good, NOT great, but he should not win by any means. He is a well rounded skier but not doing anything inovative or out of the ordinary in the backcountry or park. It was just nice pillows with a small 180 every know and then a pretty decent sized 3. His BC booters was ok, but I know half of the other guys could do that with the chance and with better air sence/style...and his park skills are medocre.
Bottom line is the Level 1 crew is STACKED with BC killers (WIlley, Stefan, Steele, Rainville, Travis) and plenty of BC booter guys too (Hornbeck, Clarke,Liam, all of the BC Killers) . All of those guys and the current Level 1 crew have 100 times better style than Matt. Again, no hate just my opinon.
Superunkown is a roll that has to be felt out to see how they fit (or don't fit) the program and the easiest way to do that is rail/park missions, easier to see how the greenhorn does. BC trips are more time and comitment, no superunknown (unless way better submission than this) will come in and go straight to BC shoots over the long standing crew that have sponsors paying already for their involvment.
This year is tough, Wallisch set the bar too damn high with style and talent. Hate to be in Berman's shoes right now or anyone's involved in this decision, but Matt is an easy rule out for me.
Keep at it Matt, stoked on your entry for sure, justified finalist, should NOT be the winner.
Matt is obviously a really strong skier. I have watched his edit a few times now and I really like it, but I doubt he will win. First of all, his BC skiing is not on par with the pros. He is damn good and can drop some really tech lines, but overall it doesnt look like he dropping anything huge. He has some great pillow line shots and shit, but honestly, there weren't any shots that are mind blowing. I am saying this because i know plenty of other kids between the ages of 15-18 who are dropping stuff just as big if not bigger than Matt. I would say that he has the potential to have a killer BC segment with a big production company, but not yet.....maybe in another year or two. Secondly, with that said it is time to look at his park skiing. Hes good but nothing special. If you look at some of the other edits such as WIll Bermans, who is throwing kangs, double fronts, switch 10s and more he doesnt even compare. Overall, he could obviously film with any company, but I don't think he will win Super Unknown this year.
