not necessarily, it mostly has to do with control. Back mount for better carving and for powder, while center mount sucks for powder, but you can carve as well backwards as forwards and you are more balanced for spinning and grinding. Not saying it doesnt affect speed at all, cuz it might, but it mostly affects the turning.
If youre looking for a 3 second difference then I would say center mount because you have more pressure throughout the ski = more points touching the snow = fast, it also means there is less drag, because the weight is centered on the ski
But you're ability to carve will be hindered losing you those 3 seconds
well what type of ski are you talking about? if you are talking abt a park ski where the sidecut is made for a center mount then why would you be looking for a lot of speed?
