im 17 and was just thinking about future ski jobs. like i know im not good enough to go pro or get a sponsor. so i was just looking at jobs in the skiing industry. and was looking for some input on getting a job as a night time groomer, lift dude, bus driver, after hour rentel repair?

dude im looking for a job like that too when i get out of high school, post up some jobs that allow you to make money in the ski industry but lets you have the time to ski.

go to college, get a degree, and then get a job in skiing.  i am sure a few companies would need an accountant, or something.
that might be my plan.

join ski patrol, what im doing, take your OEC during the summer, and then spend a season in training and then your done, get paid to ski, and help out the slope

Yeah thats what im working on gettin my business degree right now, then ski bumming working some bitch job for a lil while, hopefully get to know people and work my way up...i hope...but who fuckin knows

Yo im in the exact same situation. I need to start thinking about jobs for my future and frankly i dont give a fuck about anything except skiing. I might take a journalism class and who knows mabey i will get to write articles for freeskier or something(if i am super duper lucky). but if there are other jobs out there i want to know too.

Become a NURSE... no joke. I work in a hospital in Denver at night monitoring vital signs.  You work 3, 12 hour shifts which gives you plenty of time to ski.  I'll get 40+ days in this year.

The RN's I work with make between 60-100,000/yr (not the minimum wage of many jobs in the ski industry-no offense intended for those in the industry) and still get 4 days a week to ski if they choose.  Its a perfect job if you want free time to spend doing things you love.

Yea, the perks of the ski industry are sweet but when you consider the difference in pay, you can just go buy those perks and more. Right now, working in healthcare, you wouldn't have to worry about losing your job in this crap economy either.  Most schools have a 2yr degree you could get out of highschool.  Success in life is having options to do what you want... don't limit yourself by not getting a higher education.

With that said, I have quite a few friends in the ski industry from the bottom of the barrel to some of the higher-ups, they all love what they do.

i've been tuning skis/boards for the past 3 seasons, and i love it.  I get 120+ days up on the mountain every season because I never have to work until 3:30 or 4ish.  I get to drink beer on the job and listen to music and chill and keep my skis tuned perfectly and what-not.  Definitely a good job if you're trying to ski a lot

nurse dude that sound sick too but i hate hospitals

ya from what i hear you got to know the right people

ya id definitly love to be either a groomer or a repair guy at the pass.

groomers just work mornings and when the pass closes so they have a full day of skiing.

plus we all know they smoke hella weed then go out and groom o' course

fuck if anyone knows of a ski company that needs an accountant...sign me up. I'd jump at a chance to put these degrees to work in an industry that I actually give two shits about....

Most places wont hire you as a groomer unless you have some previous heavy equipment operating experience. Bus Driver? Get your CDL asap and that will ease things a bit.
