Anybody own or skied Donner Partys?

Im looking ay buying a pow/soft snow ski and have a line on some Moment DPs.

The only funshape ski I've ever skied before is the 186 EHP and they fucking rock, unfortunately they aren't readily available anymore this season. My current everyday skis are ANTs and to be honest at an un-athletic 5'9" and 170lbs these skis are just too much for me in tight trees and deeper snow. I loves the EHP for these conditions.

So my questions are for anyone who has actually skied the DPs. How do they ski in softer snow? Bottomless? Hardpack? Is 140 (?) underfoot going to be way too much in just a dusting of snow on top of hardpack (the conditions we get a lot of around Banff)?

Ive read up about this ski and there isnt much out there for reviews. So I know the manufacturers description and can speculate on my own, I'm really only looking for feedback from people who have skied them. Thanks newschoolers.

I have a pair and love them. I tend to follow the rule of 6 or more fresh inches to bring them out. I haven't had a really bottomless day on them yet this year but im hoping it will come soon and i know they will perform at their best on those days so don't worry about that. They are absolutely amazing in the trees, its very easy to initiate tight turns and dump speed when you need to. As for days with just an inch or two on top of crust they're not very easy to manuever and probably not as versatile a ski as the ehp in those conditions (haven't ridden the ehp). Getting back to the lift on anything groomed is easy enough but when on groomers they want to go fast, they get kinda squirrly at lower speeds. Overall i think its the best powder ski on the market with a medium stiff flex, ample rocker, and amazing float, but definitely not a very versatile ski. If you want something that will still be fun on crusty days and powder days maybe look into the bibby or jj.

Thanks for the review.

Ideally I would love to get a pair of JJs, EHPs, Bibbys or even next years CRJs. The only problem is that none of them are really readily available in the size I want and in my price range. I know the DPs are huge, so thats the only reason I'm a little skeptical.

I have the Melees, which are similar to the DPs, and they are the funnest skis ever

rode these at Pow Mtn last week, and they ride just like VTJibber mentions.  I'm trying to ditch my ARG's just because of the more versatility, tad softer flex, that the DP has.

No, they are not like the melees at all.  DP's have reverse sidecut and rocker, the melees have neither, or maybe they have rocker, but in any case they are not similar to dthe DP at all, not to mention the waist on DP's is 140.

I have DP's and have only ridden them 1 day this season, and that was on hardpack and it was pretty shitty.  They are a third ski for a quiver, what I did was get Anthems/Bacons/DP's that way I have everything covered.  If you don't already have a midfat/fat (100-120mm waisted) pow ski then I would say don't get the DP's unless you know you will have 4+ inches everytime you get snow.

Thanks for the info guys. Still unsure, how do they handle in soft/post storm chop/soft bumps? I'm really just wondering how much use I can get out of this ski if i did buy it.

Consider this a bump for more anyone else out there who could chime in.
