Dakar Rally

has anyone been watching coverage of this?
it's a huge rally race with motorcycles, cars, trucks and more that races something like 2500 miles through Europe and western Africa
its awesome to see these cars and stuff haul ass through the desert with sand billowing out behind them
ive been watchin a summary every night on the speed network

God father of skiing Glenn Plake is all into these type of races. I think he competed in it last year.

The bikes are so awesome too, they have computer guidance systems and they show the rider where to turn and how much to turn and where a drop off is and how fast to be going when they hit it and shit...

Yeah, the cars and trucks have similar things but it just isn't as cool

^^ ya all the riders are given a road map to follow but the bikes have GPS mounted in front of them by their handlebars, its cool to see em looking down at that while goin like 60-70 mph

the drivers in cars can use the map a lot easier since they have a codriver they can communicate with

my mom drives a Mitsubishi Montero and that one the Dakar Rally a whole bunch of times. I should take it and enter. ha.

i think the guy youre thinking of that wrecked was Richard Sainct, he's a French motorcyclist. I saw a tape of it, i think he did that on the first day, injured his left forearm and didn't do very well for a while but now hes like back in first every stage (i think he won last year) that wreck looked nasty though

Yeah that races is sick! I feel sorry for the guys on the motorcycles that would be so hard

BigD^^^ the races are like thousands of miles or something and they're accross desert and all sorts of rocks and dirt in the middle of no where.

i have new updates:
the trucks weigh 12 tons and i heard on the show last night that the entire race is about 6000 miles long
sainct wrecked on the fourth stage in morocco
yesterday was a rest day for all the riders but they actually got 2 days of not racing before because they had to fly the bikes and drive the cars around some villages with security risks

the race starts in spain, goes to france, then to africa by boat for most of the race

i know i guy that was gonna race there and was selected for the american team but durring training he hit a ditch or something at around 80 and snapped his leg in half. hes pretty crazy though - i have seen him ride his mx bike down the face of mammoth - fucking narly

they had like a dakar marathon on saturday
There are 17 stages in the whole rally
a stage takes about 40-50 mins

no dude a stage takes like 5-10 hours, some of them are more than 400 miles long
