Gap year

me and a couple of friends are taking a year out next year to ski. Our plan is to go to whistler, we want to ski powder since we mainly ski in europe. however the olympics makes finding accomodation pretty impossible for us with no money, so were planning on travelling to japan and other places during that month. I was wondering what other places people would say were affordable to travel to with tonnes of powder aswell as japan. Also for people who have been to japan: when is the best time to go,  where did u stay, and how much did it cost??

I find it funny that you are worried about money when you are moving to Whistler for a year and then travelling to Japan for month during the Olympics. Am I missing something?

I would go to UT for sure. probably one of the cheapest places to live and if you are there for a month there is a great chance you will get a big dump. Plus there is so much to ski.  PC has great parks, Alta and the Bird have some of the most gnarly terrain around. plus did I mention that the snow is the shit i would compare it to skiing in a cloud.  also you can always go check out the gap and there is tones O back country to be had.  I have never been to Japan so if you go let us know how that works out.  as fare as hood goes it has some good stuff but if you want powder i wouldn't go there they can get a lot of snow but to me it seems quite a bit denser than UT or BC, but i could just not be good enough to deal with it. also I have stayed in Gov'y for a while before and there is not a lot to do there, but I have heard it has grown a bit since i was last there.   if you want to ski the real gnarly shit go to Jackson Hole never been but i want to go bad. only down side i have heard is the snow can be hit or miss and it is not cheap in mid season.  hope that helps.
