No Top Rated!? Not a fan of the new vid section...

fancy seeing this thread, just as I was about to make one or write in one with the same ideas..

no top rated, only average ranking which doesnt work since theres quite a few movies with low votes but those that do are all 10s..

Also I hate how small it is, and that it has to come up in a second window.. I hated it so much I tried to find the video where it was originally uploaded so I could go watch it there. Please go back to the old video section, there wasn't as many things wrong with it.

i agree. i loved the old section... this one isn't amazing.

the only reason i go into the media videos section is because of the top rated...

top rated is under quick links on the right.

First off I like seeing more videos when you immediately open the page. If that makes sense. I feel like some people just glance at the section and dont scroll down too much.

Ok, I think I made a really bad call on this one. Looks like people liked seeing a whole bunch of videos, and the thumbnail doesn't matter. I'm going to work with Paul to make the main gallery display look a lot more like the old one, and just have very small thumbnails. I think a lot of people agree on this one. Let me know if you like big thumbnails.


Also I dont like the fact that there is no top rated anymore? Or if there is I just cant find it? Maybe im blind.

Quicklinks, located about 1 inch to the left of where they used to be holds the top rated link. Works the same as it used to.


Also the new flash videos, Im not a huge fan of. I miss the good ol .mov's where the videos have much much better quality with smaller files to upload.

Displayed right on the page is the raw .mov file. Just like on the old system, you can click this and watch the original file in all its glory. As well, certain industry types, journalists and trusted movie makers will now have the ability to upload much larger videos to ensure you can host quality. You are included in this.


Also the flash format is not HD friendly. 16x9 videos show up tiny tiny on there and the quality and colors are significantly reduced.

I think you're right that the player is way too small, and not wide screen. This was a fault of the design of our old player, and the layout of the video page. In hindsight, we likely should have fixed this first before upgrading. We're working on it right now so that the player will be almost twice the size it is right now and support widescreen.

Support for HD, a better uploading system, and multiple quality settings are all being worked on.
