I was having a conversation with a Christian friend and we started talking about curse words. Before I go on I would like to say that I swear too much, but never in front of adults. My side of the argument is that it is against God's word because it is not pleasing to him. Someone is always watching us Christians, to find faults in the religion, to find truths, and just to see why it is different than that of other religions. I believe that leading by example is the best way to witness. My friends argument is that God never said they, being fuck, shit, ass, bitch, etc., are bad. I agree he never said they were not bad, but because society has marked these words as being offensive, Christians should not use them. "Screw society", he said, "I don't believe they are bad, they are just synonyms for other words, so they arn't bad."

I believe that you should always be living in a godly mannor when at all possible. Do I live like that? No, none of us can, but we have to try our best. If you believe that than cussing is wrong. Not because God actually said it was, but because society said it was. If someone hears you say shit than they are going to think to themselves "they must not be a true Christian, so I shouldn't waste my timewith that crap." In reality you are a true Christian, you just arn't showing it, therefore you arn't showing the way to the one and only God.

Thats just my perspective of the issue. Anyone else care to share theirs?

i swear quite a bit, that's just how it is i guess, however when im in public or with others i dont run my mouth with swear words, just because i dont know if someones going to be offended by it  or a kids going to walk past because they do not need to hear what come out of my mouth sometimes.

as far as a ungodly thing to do because its against societys moral law, im not to sure, i mean jesus was against the moral law of his time, drinking on the sabbath speaking against tha pharasies and what not. it seems that  christians in todays society are seen as outcasts and against the norm which is good as the norm is pretty immoral today but we still have to be able to connect with the community and share the good word, it does not matter how it comes out of your mouth as long as its message is the truth then thats all that matter.

i dont think swearing is unholy or against god but just rude and makesyou look like a ass when its done in pubic.

In a letter to the Epehesian: Ephesians 5:4, "Dirty stories, foul talk and coarse jokes—these are not for you. Instead remind each other of God's goodness and be thankful!"

And again in a letter to the Colossians: Colossians 3:8, "But now you must rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips."

It actually does say in the bible that we are to use our lips for good and the glorification of god. So the fact is that if what we say is not glorifying our lord then it is against His wish. Not saying I'm a saint here, I curse all the time too, and some light cursing is regular in my very christian household. Obviously you can't be perfect, but you can try to be as close to perfect as possible. So you can give your friend those verses and that should show him that it is addressed in the good book, and it's in the NT so you don't need to worry about that.

I dont think that we need to stay in the guidlines of our society... (our society that approves of abortions)

and filthy words are an opinion does that mean taking the lords name in vain? imo it does. but what is the difference between poop and shit or screwed up or fucked up... they mean the same thing so if you find shit offensive shouldnt you find poop offensive too?

i dont understand the whole lords name in vain, like i dont understand what your saying about that, but Exodus 20:7 (NIV) says Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.

The Bible clearly states (that verse and the Ten Commandments) that God's name should'nt be used as a curse, or in any way that is dishonoring him.

I understand where the "I dont think that we need to stay in the guidlines of our society" comes from, but like I said before we are always being watched. People don't classify poop as being the same as shit. You don't see parents walking around asking their toddler if they have "shit-shit" in their pants? No, they say "Do you have to poo-poo", or whatever. Why? because poo isn't to the same extreme as shit.

I'm not saying that you are going to hell for cussing, no way cause while im typing this exact sentance i just called some girl a fucking bitch in a text

All im trying to say is that "bad" words are bad because of society, therefore since we (Christians) are judged in the eyes of society than we shouldnt be saying these words...

thats the way i see, im not trying to preach or nothing...
