This would work only if these karma points and/or their owners were somehow bringing business and revenue into newschoolers.  That's why sponsored riders get free shit - they generate publicity.  Karma points would not really do to good a job at that in it of themselves.  Maybe the members who spread the word of NS the most (like the sticker contest winners) could, because they'll be doing something in return for NS's gifts.  For karma points though?  Nah...
