Anybody read the 'This Big' aticle in the latest issue of SBC Skier?

All I could do as I read it was shake my head in shame. They must have met up with every Gaper in Corner Brook. And while I admit, many Newfoundlanders' have a tendency to over exaggerate the truth, the article defiantly paints Newfoundland in somewhat of a negative light.

Firstly, I don't know what kind of Joey of a 'guide' they met up with, but calling the wind lip on the transmission line a '30' cliff' makes me blush with embarrassment.

And, secondly, everyone knows there are no 'all night parties' at the Marble day lodge. And usually no parties at all unless there is a very specific event.

Lastly, there wasn't a big mention about weather, but if you are coming to Newfoundland, you need to be in contact with a knowledgeable local about snow conditions. Yes, the weather does change quickly here, but that's no reason to come during a horrible dry spellhoping it will turn around on a dime.

It seemed like a bad experience, painted over in the best light possible, to try and salvage a magazine article. Which leads me to assume that Larose, Zicat and company won't be back anytime soon. However, if they do come back, or for anyone else planning to make the trip to Newfoundland/Marble to shoot, do yourself a favor an find a good guide. We do have some epic terrain, but it isn't necessarily obvious. It takes a skilled eye to find innovative things to hit in Newfoundland, and thats's if you know where to look.

 I don't know the planning process that went into the trip so I won't judge, but simply showing up at Marble, going to Management and asking for a guide won't cut it. That's like asking a blind man to judge a beauty contest. So if you don't know where to go to find features yourself, or you don't have a guide who is on the exact same page as you, you're epic Newfoundland trip is going to be a muffled experience. Waisting your time trudging around Marble for days is pointless when someone who knows what you're looking for could have you up and filming everything worth while in 1 day, leaving the rest of your trip for far more useful ventures.
