rails are kickin my ass

I'm trying ot learn rails, and for some reason, i just can't get it down, i keep falling back, you guys have any advice for learning to keep a flat base on the rail so you dont fall back? or like crash course way to learn rails?

Yeah you're leaning back and not commiting. That's probly your main problem.

hey guy, I sort of read what everybody else said but it didn't really stick cause I'm really sauced, seems to me though you got's to lean forward more. I used to eat shit practically every time I hit a rail and it was always because I subconciously leaned back too far. Hop on that shit and focus on the end of the rail and lean forward a lot and you'll be golden.

Ok im no pro at rails but I just learned how to slide them on Thursday and keep yourself centered, come to the rail with your knees a tad bit bent and land on the rail like that, and the main thing is dont think about what can happen before you hit the rail because it will make you screw up.

If your landing backseat in jumps I can help you, I used to do the same thing. When you come off the lip and pop, punch your hands forward, like a racer coming off the roller. It will keep you level and stable. If you can do this and stay level...just reduce the amount you throw your hands forward until you don't have to do it any more.

Yeah dude you gotta hike a lot when you're learning. Instead of falling and just going back to the lift and skiing a run back to the rail, hike it. When I was learning I spent hours just hiking the SAME rail. The skateboard thing works too, however the only problem I found with it is you leap forward off of one foot onto a skateboard and you don't exactly do that on skis...but if you can get onto the rail, then that is the same balance thing. Spread your feet out to shoulder width. I just tried pushing my weight as FORWARDS as I could. You won't go over the top.

^ exactly. Just get some balls and do it, the more you think about it, the more time you have to psyche yourself out. Just think positive thoughs before you do it..like: I'm gonna grease this rail. My dad told me that one time before I was learning rails and I ended up doing the rail.

Let's put it this way, I don't even know if I've ever bailed on a rail from leaning forward too much. However, I was in the same boat as you when i started sliding and corrected it by following the same advice JD_May just gave you.
Think of it this way, if you lean back, you're going to bail 95% of the time, if you lean forward and commit you'll probably slick it.

i found that if you drop your front hand when your sliding the rail, it will help to keep your balance forward

i got the same problem. whenever i hit a rail i get backseat and ive done it so many times i dont wanna hit another rail. so i guess just think about leanin forward.

yeah it is really good advice. ive had problems committing and leaning forward too. that skateboard thing sounds like a good idea. but i think as unnatural as it might feel to lean pretty much too far forward you just gotta do it. im still wrapping my head around the idea myself, but thats what works.






I feel bad for people who don't drink, cause when they wake up in the morning, thats the best the're going to feel all day

the only time i've fallen forward on a rail is a week ago when i caught an edge, but that was on unwaxed wood
also, falling forward doesn't hurt nearly as much cuz you can roll, maybe that fact will make you more eager to lean forward..

If you have tried all the stuff above... you should have got it. Practice, practice, and more practice make you so much better. But depending on how long you have been working on them, i have to tell you that rails arent for everyone... some people just can't seem to get it down.

Well, i was up there today, and there arn't any good learning rails that i wont nut myself on... me and my friends will make some... thanks for the great help...
i did a nice 360 today though, and didn't land backseat, it was so sweet

Hey don't worry about the higher rails being harder. When I was starting I couldnt get the low ones, I couldnt turn quick enough when I got off. But then I tried a few bigger ones and it was easy. As for advice for ride ons, I usually just jump and turn 90 even if there isnt anywhere to jump. It doesn't take much to turn 90 degrees. But you *can* ride on, it's harder to time though.

I had the same prob, but last season I had rails fine. I almost cracked my dome on a kinked rail, so now my confidence is down.

today was a good day for me, the last run of the day my friend went and did a super smooth corked out 5 palm mute and then i went to do a smooth 5 but just kept on rotating to 7 and landed perfect, i have never landed that smoothly before, it was wierd
