No Poles has gone too far

I've been noticing a worrying trend lately at my home mountain. Most serious park skiers at Stevens Pass, WA go without poles. I guess the general public has taken notice, because when I was freeriding today, I went by a six year old, and guess what, NO POLES. Absolute beginner too.

I come home today, and did a little research before making some sort of stupid thread, and guess what I found - ITS SPREADING. There are hundreds of pictures out there on google of  "My first time skiing" and VERY few have poles in hand. Proof:

Little does this little one know that they are weighing in on one of the great debates of freesking.

The implications of an entire generation of new skiers riding without poles is staggering. Thats not the worst of it however. Apparently, at some places they actually TEACH PEOPLE TO SKI WITHOUT POLES.

Look, I take neither side in this debate. I know no poles has been hated on for a while, but really? Swaying the ski culture by brainwashing children? Thats a massive step over the line for me. For the love of God, THEY'RE ONLY CHILDREN. WHY DID YOU ASSHOLES GET THEM INVOLVED!?!

when i learned to ski i didnt use poles either? it was easier it seem like at that age to not use them but once i got good enough i started to use them..

I work in a ski repair/rental shop, and we don't give poles out to kids, due to the fact that ski patrol doesn't like to see them rocking poles, as it causes problems for them to learn, and even sometimes when they fall.

But yeah

I hate no poles on adults. Maybe if you had pictures of lots of adults not wearing poles, but you cant throw pic after pic of 8 year olds learning how to ski and claim "no one uses poles"

my shista hit christmas chute (an avelanche chute at alyeska...double black all the way) with no poles....i laughed at her cause she ate it trying to do turns and i was turning fine!

haha...the other day I was skiing with one of my friends who has no poles. We are waiting to drop on a jump, he goes and these two little snowboarders ask me "did he just start skiing", I looked and them, laughed a little and just said "no", then he goes "well then why doesn't he have poles?", I had nothing to say but "He doesn't want them".

So little kids have no poles, big fuckin deal. Better off taught that way so they arent dependant on it, just like they should not be taught "pizza".

I broke two pairs of poles in two weeks. So I look back and think, why the hell am I worrying about these damn  things, I dont use them AT ALL in the park (or on the mountain) and they are just excess baggage.....I am just going to go without them.

Result? A happier me, I dont have to worry about them at all, whether its buying new ones, or landing on them and breaking em.  You "traditional" fags have no sense of logic. You bitch about no poles and/or short poles, but never think "why". Poles are completely useless in park, and imo on the mountain as well. If you need your hands and arms to tell you when to turn, you need a few more lessons on how to ski. Even with pow, poles are extremely overrated.

Quit caring about appearance and just have fun. If you can't have fun without knocking on other people who are having fun, get the fuck off the hill.

No poles is a south east trend. over half of the freestyle skiers have no poles here (ex west va., NC, VA) its just our style.

the reason kids don't use poles when they are starting to ski is that it is dangerous to give little kids poles.  when first learning you don't need poles, so why use them

I dont use poles cause a guy at my resort (Blue Mountain, Ontario) got a pole, including the basket through his balls.  Freaked the shit out of me.
