No Poles has gone too far

I've been noticing a worrying trend lately at my home mountain. Most serious park skiers at Stevens Pass, WA go without poles. I guess the general public has taken notice, because when I was freeriding today, I went by a six year old, and guess what, NO POLES. Absolute beginner too.

I come home today, and did a little research before making some sort of stupid thread, and guess what I found - ITS SPREADING. There are hundreds of pictures out there on google of  "My first time skiing" and VERY few have poles in hand. Proof:

Little does this little one know that they are weighing in on one of the great debates of freesking.

The implications of an entire generation of new skiers riding without poles is staggering. Thats not the worst of it however. Apparently, at some places they actually TEACH PEOPLE TO SKI WITHOUT POLES.

Get these children some aluminum, baskets and grips, pronto.

Look, I take neither side in this debate. I know no poles has been hated on for a while, but really? Swaying the ski culture by brainwashing children? Thats a massive step over the line for me. For the love of God, THEY'RE ONLY CHILDREN. WHY DID YOU ASSHOLES GET THEM INVOLVED!?!

haha this is a great debate. i dont know what to say. i realized im a pole kind of guy when i dropped them off the lift once and started skiing back to them,  i was like "wooooooeee"  poles have a force, like some kind of power behind them. as long as there not too big or too small they do, haha. i think it helps kids to learn i guess. but screw the pizza cut

Dude this is a thread is fucking mint on its own, but what made it that much better was all dummies on here that didn't and won't (as I'm sure there will be many no polers still being serious and deffending no poling not because they enjoy it more but think its cool looking because they saw idea and that's the real reason they do it)  realize the sarcasim and continue you to give serious answers like some of the epic fails earlier hahaha!

seriously lots of kids start skiing without poles it is way easier when your young then when you get the hang of it throw the poles in the mix

i've been skiing since i was about 5 ( ya claim) and i never skied with  poles, infact i learned with out them because my parents didn't trust me at first with them haha.

i use poles now, i cant imagine riding park with out them.

Thanks for the sarcasm dadali.   If I remember right, I was really tired when I posted this and completely missed how funny Rowen is.  There have been plenty of others who haven't read through the thread and posted responses defending the tykes sans poles.  Yes its a good thread.

I learned how to ski without poles like the first 2 years when i was a kid. I didn't really know how to use them and they just got in the way! I think that if your using poles or not using poles doesn't matter and i respect you either way i just dont like people that dont use poles just to look cool. You know???

its is actualy easier to learn how to ski when you do not have poles as a little kid.  When i first learned how to ski from my dad (an ex ski racer) i wasnt given poles.  I actualy didnt have poles untill i was 5-6  and he had started teaching me how to ski when i was 3 years old. so just because there are the beginers without poles does not mean that its because of trend

idk about there, but at my home resort they teach without poles. they say apparently that when learning its easier to learn without then use them later. but idk i thought it was easier to learn with

i read through this whole thread, and it made me not understand how on the 5th page, months after the thread was created, people still didn't understand that it was a joke. it's pathetic that people didn't get it at first, but still not? oh my god

One day I was skiing without poles because I was learning double grabs and I find them easier with no poles, and the whole ride up the lift I had this dad and son trying to teach me how to ski and that "once I get more used to blues" I should start using poles.

agreed. i ski at wintergreen in VA and no one who is decent at park uses poles here. our terrain is so lame that poles are pretty much useless. i use them when i go out west tho.

In a lot of places in Europe, beginners don't get poles until they're competent at snow plough turning and stopping.

I, for one, am a responsible no poler. Whenever I ski near the impressionable, I am always careful to look like a learner, and not draw attention to myself.
