While i really like Linux, and use it probly 70 percent of the time.. I could never only use it, theres just not enough software, like photoshop, and premiere... and no games...

What do you use, like KDE, gnome?

But....

Iv never had a Virus in windows, and I pirate a lot of stuff, and dont use any sort of virus protection...

Windows is terrible but you have to use it because its the only operating system on the market.

oh haha, i was simply suggesting the only easier option than windows. i've taken to referring people to OS X a lot lately, rather than actually bothering to help them with their current setups. i use mostly vista these days, seeing as how my other rig needs work, but i'm going to start dual-booting with vista and ubuntu or red hat on this rig sometime this week because there are some things i need to do that i can really only do on linux.

never found a real need for gnome or kde, linux is about as unix as it gets for me. i might start using gnome more in future, but for now i find it easy enough to use linux for most of the things i would be using gnome for anyways.

i've had one virus in windows, and that was from an exceptional team of assholes. i got rid of it quickly enough, and i run avira free in windows these days. i also pirate way too much stuff and it has proved helpful a couple of times when browsing 4chan in windows haha (not /b/, mostly just /hr/), and seeing as how it takes up very little space and doesn't slow down my system at all, i keep it.

yeah, i wasn't using anything up until i saw MaximumPC's article on all the antiviruses, and they had avira free up there or above the ones that people are paying upwards of $75 for haha. i figured i had to try it out for myself, and i can honestly say that i prefer using avira than not using anything at all.

would you recommend dual-boot or virtual-mounting? because i have virtual box, but i've heard that dual-booting is better. note that this is my first time running multiple OS's on one rig, so i am newb.

it depends how often you plan on using the linux. i only use linux for my programming classes so i virtual mount. if youre gonna use it much more than that id dual boot.

No shit... I'm very anti-anti-virus across the board, but I trust your opinion on this kinda shit. It's actually worth it? I've never had a problem with viruses ever but if it doesn't really effect performance I guess why not..?

no, you sir are fucking dumb. Mac is a company, OSX is the operating system. Its like "should i get windows or OSX?" "yeah, get a dell" a dell is not windows, a dell is a computer. YOU FUCKING IDIOT. i hate people who don't know what they are talking about

and osx doesnt get viruses because people haven't made them yet because OSX isnt used nearly as much. Trust me, give it a few year and OSXwith have viruses just like windows. And there actaully are viruses, they are just kinda rare.

and if your not an idiot, you shouldnt get any viruses on a windows computer
