When people hate, it doesn't anger me.... their arguements are usually too mislead or uninformed to get mad... it just sucks that people are too ignorant to even put the effort forth in order to better understand some of the most pertinent issues today. It's also a shame that they happen to be of low issue salience because there will always be something else more important ex. the economy faiiling, a war, etc.

Ever since taking Envi. Science this year I've been extremely interested in the environment, global climate changes/trends, and sustainable life. I'm graduating this year, but my school is creating a 100% carbon-neutral building that runs on geothermal energy/solar power. Pretty stoked on visiting again in a couple years to see how it turns out. It's supposed to be done this summer.

Labeling of carbon dioxide as a 'pollutant.
In an inconvenient truth Al gore labels carbon dioxide as a pollutant but this is not so Carbon Dioxide is an 'essential trace gas'(junk-science, 2008).It is needed in many was it strengthens tree populations that otherwise would not be as strong, it helps tree mature more quickly so they can be harvested.But wait isn't cutting down trees bad?Not so the only evidence to show that the cutting down of tree's is bad pertains to old growth forest such as those found in Alaska and British Columbia.But i digress an increasing abundance of co2 will cause rapid growth of second and third generation forests making a healthier ecosystem.Doom-sayers and Activists both state that carbon dioxide is the root of our problems but they do not realize that the global average temperature has both fallen and risen during the time after the industrial revolution making statements that carbon dioxide is bad false.

Stating that a sea-level rise of 18 to 20 feet is expected
This projected sea-level rise was just pulled out of thin air.The United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change states that 'We project a sea level rise of 0.09 to 0.88 m for 1990 to 2100, with a central value of 0.48 m. The central value gives an average rate of 2.2 to 4.4 times the rate over the 20th century...It is now widely agreed that major loss of grounded ice and accelerated sea level rise are very unlikely during the 21st century' (Murray, 2008).  This figure created by the United nations is much more accurate as it included the input of many scientists working without influence from certain people i.e Al gore. Al gore won the Nobel peace prize for his 'work' in combating climate change. This simply shows that the majority of people who hear about global warming are uneducated about the matter.

The ice caps have melted in many places
This statement is false for many reasons the first which i will focus on. Gore cites the snows in Kilimanjaro as having melted due to global warming but The international journal of climatology states that' The concept considers the peculiarities of the mountain and implies that climatological processes other than air temperature control the ice recession in a direct manner. A drastic drop in atmospheric moisture at the end of the 19th century and the ensuing drier climatic conditions are likely forcing glacier retreat on Kilimanjaro' (Georg,K Douglas, et all. 2004) This shows that the snows of Kilimanjaro are not in fact retreating due to global warming but due to a localized warming period.

This is one of the only things Al Gore stated correctly in his movie.this is unfortunate because he did in fact win a Nobel prize for factual inaccuracies The earths temperature changes in highly irregular cycles.the earth was warmer during the Cretaceous period there was even speculation that there was no ice even at the poles.during the Miocene era the earth was warmer than present temperatures even though there was less c02.from 1.6 million years ago to now there have been thirty three glacial advances and retreats.the reason for the retreat of the glaciers were due to wobbles in the earth orbit and changes in solar intensity as well as continental drift.this proves that regardless of co2 levels the earths temperature will fluctuate.(the global warming debate,a review of the state of science. 2001).

i'll disagree with one thing. the "actual fact" was a fact 11 years ago. in the past 10 years, the average temperature of the earth has decreased more than 6 degrees.
