Christians preach to me at home about once a month.

they think I need saving for some reason.

they have a problem with my way of doing things.

They want me to convert all the time.

Tight pants dont tell me I'm going to hell because I wear baggy stuff, hip hop is a genre of music, beer is a beverage. The only valid comparison you mentioned was rasta and skiing, and to tell you the truth rastafarians dont come up to me when Im downtown and ask me if Ive found Jah, I take no issue with that faith because they dont make a point to bother me.

The thread creator is trying to get people to join the Christian Skier Cult ( as ironic as that sounds) The amount of misinformation in this thread is ridiculous from the opponents and proponents of the religion.

I attended a christian school for 8 years and i was taught theology all of those years. Christianity is bullshit. You can try to prove me wrong but i'm just warning you, I have a fucking arsenal of points and facts to back myself up. So, you can try to defend your "god" but truth will prevail.

i used to be on RR, so Dave stewart is mad christian, but the group its self is not, but he always has a religious vibe, and everyone who was in it with me i think was christian so..

Oh of course its fucked up morals. But you have to consider this was common place back then and morals aren't objective. I don't think the bible should be revered as highly as it is in society but it is and it has had positive and negative impacts on society. Christians think its the reason for everything good and too many freethinkers pin too many of societies problems on it. It has incited countless numbers of unnecessary deaths and been used by many to justify the unjustifiable but at the same time the Jesus Character has inspired people to go out and do great things whether it be charity, activism, or just being a decent person and it is sweetest when it has been out of a love for the character. I suppose for all practical purposes it was good when it was out of fear of hell fire but the doctrine of hell is why I don't believe the bible is the word of a deity anymore.

ok, so lets look at your logic. the bible isnt bad, because somebody else out there is doing something "worse". (worse being in quotes because it all depends on who you ask) therefore, by your flawed logic, beating kids isnt that bad, because some people rape and murder them. am i right? or am i missing something more subtle in your post?


while at one time it may have been more accurate, the bible is drastically at odds with most modern beliefs, as far as word for word translation is concerned.

For the record, I live in Mammoth and have yet to meet someone between 18 and 30 that goes to church. I have yet to actually meet someone that says they are even christian. Do you ask people if they are? I can't imagine asking someone if what religion they are unless it is deep into the conversation cause otherwise you may not think you are, but you immediately judge them. Hopefully you met someone got into a really good convo and it randomly came up and they introduced you to this group of people. Cause I have yet to discover them.

Not hating or anything.... but your post made it sound like christianity is huge out here... while I believe quite the contrary... STD's are pretty huge though, so is weed and underage drinking.

Generally when you pray for snow, you are supposed to be praying to Ullr which is pretty contradictory to the whole monotheistic thing.

i went to lighthouse church in mammoth and met people there i would say there is probally 200 people that  regularly go there (my girlfriend was working there hence why i went over) most of the Christians i met over there lived in Crowley and bishop. and i agree its not a question i usually ask, i didnt mean to make it sound like everyone from mammoth is christian but i figured 200 people in mammoth there must be a fairly solid base around the industry and the sport for christianity.

i know you are going to jump on me.  i am not trying to air my views, but if you really want to hear them, that is for another post.  they will be different than what you expect.

     but you have to understand a little about the bible.  most of the old testament is jewish law, relevant to the time that they were living in.  for instance, shellfish were considered "unclean" because everyone knows that shellfish are 5-star hotels for all kinds of harmful bacteria and deceases.  in the 21st century, we have something called  technology, that makes it possible to store and prepare shellfish without risking our health.  they didn't have refrigerators  back then, so it would be beneficial to have a law cautioning against something that would most likely make you sick. 

     about the first passage that you quoted, slaves were a part of life back then.  i am not saying that slavery is alright, but wouldn't you rather be set free after 6 years, or be a slave for life?

   about the second half: if your master gives you a wife, it still belongs to him, not you.  that was the way things worked back then.  we have come along way in the thousands of year since then; just try to view it in regards to the lifestyle they lived.

   about the second passages you quoted.  i don't have to get biblical, historical, or even intelligent about those.  you took it COMPLETELY out of context.  that is ignorance at its best.  you are warping it to suit your argument.  that straight isn't right.  if you can't support the argument with straight facts, you have no argument.  it is very likely that in context those passages make perfect sense, or again are relevant to the times.

no matter how "relevant at the time" any of it was, it is still considered pretty wack now, and yet people cling to everyword like its law, and then make arguments like this. either you follow it or you dont, if you are just picking and choosing the passages that are relevant today, you are basically just exercising common sense and decency, which most non-christians can say about themselves without having to consult a users guide to life

I attended a private religious academy for 9 years before going to a non religious high school, and as a 6 year old i recall listening to the parish members reciting prayers and thinking that they sounded like a bunch of brain washed drones. I believe that belief in a higher being is a good thing, it brings people hope in times of despair, i simply believe that people putting a title on it, with rules and restrictions is where it gets all fucked up. Living a good, honest life is the correct path, regardless of whether or not you consult the bible or Koran. Religion just fucks everything up, not to mention all the hypocrisy involved.

the idea that anyone could even presume to have even the slightest knowledge of what we are, where we came from, or what we're supposed to do is ridiculous. we know nothing, yet assume everything.
therefore, religion causes it's own problems, and the fact of the matter is that more people would rather associate themselves with a notion of understanding, than the notion of misunderstanding. human nature in itself will continue to uphold religion despite the problems, because humans feel the need to have a protective state of knowledge in all cases. atheism is also a protective state in which we know nothing of the universe(s) and therefore need not worry about our own existence.
safety will be the downfall of humanity, and religion will be the accelerator.

just the cliff notes alone were refreshing, most christians or strongly religious people in general cant accept that you can have the same values and morals as them without sharing a belief that some people just think is silly. not to knock you if you believe in a higher power, i think you know what im trying to say.

Yes, I do.  Maybe not the judging part though. 

I think you fail to realize, Drew, that your beliefs seem even more militant than mine as you are willing to openly bash those who don't agree with you.  I also think you fail to realize that 99% of religious people aren't the crazy "Jesus is my best friend" people.

And no, I (and most religious people) don't need the incentive of heaven and hell to try to be a better person.

I think this is something atheists and a lot of religious people have in common: we try to be better people because we would like to see our surroundings improve, make others feel better about themselves, and leave the world a better place.
