Jesus, I knew I'd get this in a thread eventually, but first reply, really?

He was right, and its is one of the most revolutionary and enlightening ideas in science. I know half of America still believes the world was created in 7 days, but respect an insightful man who challenged the world and built the foundation for modern biology.

Evolution is as much a fact as that the Earth orbits the sun. Just as in the same way with astronomy and the previous example, if you try to understand anything in biology without it, it doesnt make sense.

You can have your own opinions on anything, sure, but there are two states when it comes truth in this universe - being right and being wrong. Belief should only be acceptable when we do not have the definite answer.

What a Genius!  I mean, he did marry his cousin, but let's not think about that.  Even though it's pretty creepy.  If I did not know about god or evolution and someone explained them to me, evolution would make more sense.  It's something you can prove in current time, god is not.  Do we have true evidence about god?  Nope.  Think of it this way:  There are so many religions out there that believe in a different god or gods, are there actually all those gods out there.  Someone has to be wrong, right?  The world all lives in 2009.  Didn't Jesus die 2009 years ago?  Doesn't it have to do with Jesus?  If there are parts of the world where Jesus is not a part of their religion, why do they live in 2009?  Evolution makes so much sense.  Darwin is a fucking genius.  Tp the dude who doesn't want to admit he evolved from apes.  Think of it this way.  God made a ball of matter and that evolved into what he imagined.  Happy?  Sorry to get way off topic.  HAPPY B-DAY Darwin!

Hahahaha sorry but that statement is absolutly rediculus. If you actually do some research you'll find there is still many many flaws in evoution, what came first chicken or the egg? It sounds stupid but how can you explain it?? And the earth orbiting the sun is a FACT, Evoultion is a THEORY.

The greatest part about newschoolers is that when you come on here, you can always get the most ridiculous responses to anything...
Honestly, there is absolutely no proof in us just being placed here as intelligent life... Darwin's theory is the only way which makes any sense at all... considering the way that humans have evolved in the last 4000 years it's easy to see that at one point we came from apes.

I really hate to get mixed up in all this, but it really sounds like most of you guys don't really understand what evolution means. I'm not going to sit here and lecture, but a while ago my prof showed me this website:

Evolution has been proven to occur within species. The only thing stopping us from noticing species diverging into others is our limited time, as these changes take many thousands of years and generations.

As for the question about LUCA (Last Universal Common Ancestor, eg, the progenitor of all life on Earth), its really up for debate since we dont have a fossil record that can capture microorganisms. Some amazing work is being done in this feild right now however, where scientists are exploring the possibility that crystal lattices naturally brough together various biochemicals, and eventually created mini-RNA based worlds and cellular devices that digested the minerals they sat upon.

And also, I have yet to hear a theory of speciation that can explain for the millions of species we observe today that is anything but laughable.

The Theory of evolution is a scientific theory. a scientific theory isn't just theory, it is an idea that is accepted as truth in the scientific community. this goes the same for theories in mathematics. theories are held as truth until they can be proven to be wrong. so far evolution, gravity, and other thousands of scientific theories are yet to be proven wrong so it is foolish to consider them "opinion"... i'm not stating an opinion, i'm stating a fact
