Shop won't mount Rossignol Fks 185s because they are not on the "approved list."

My local shop won't mount my FKS 185s on my scratches because they are not on Rossignols "approved list." Wtf I purchased these bindings new a few years back and they are the only bindings I will ride. Never prerelease, only broke once and was easily repaired by me, and dont allow any boot movement. I explained that I have had them mounted numerouse times over the past few years and no one has had a problem with them. He kept suggesting I buy new bindings. Has anyone else had anything like this happen?

When my mom went in to get her Elan stick skis mounted the shop threw a hissy fit and pressured her into buying new skis and bindings... Probably time for her to get new stuff anyway though.

Ever thought about mounting them yourself?

dude honestly, don't get mad at the shop. Its not their decision. I work in a shop an we get this all the time. If you didn't know, there is a universal list of "indemnified bindings" that it released and updated every year. If your binding is not on that list, it means that a ski tech cannot work on it for liability reasons. Don't get me wrong, they may be in perfect shape and working, but they are just following the rules dude. heres a link to the list: http://www.nssra.com/2001/nssra/index.asp?centre=article&recno=2651

ohh and I wouldn't even bother taking them to another shop, because ever reputable shop will give you the exact same response.

Ya, not sure what list that shop is using, because the bindings are on the list.

we mount them all the time.

yeah i was going to say... i just checked the list in my shop and any fks is completely fine to mount. you should have a look at the list with the guys at that shop and see what they say then. some people are so stupid.

heres the deal with the turntable bindings many shops won't mount them because it is difficult to set the forward pressure properly, also many shops will back the forward pressure off a notch so the bindings release easier, saving them from being sued.  problem is, if you do this with any turntable heel is that it will prerelease like a mother.  Finally it is indemnified and even if it wasn't there is a waiver form in the look manual to release the shop of any liability if they were to tech an unindemnified binding.

After i got that call this morning i went into the shop and the tech wouldn't mount them. at the counter the guy was like "thats some BS" and went back into the shop and showed the tech that they were approved. The tech was an older guy and said "regardless of if they are approved I still won't mount them because the breaks are too small." The 187 MSPs they are on have the same waist as the Scratch Brigades, and the FKS breaks hang over just fine, but at this point it was obvious he was just being stubborn.

It's shitty because we are getting dumped on all week, and i am finally getting over a dislocated/broken shoulder, and I NEED my skis by tomorrow to ride this weekend.

I took the to REI and the guys said he would mount them but didnt have time. I ended up taking them to a shop about 40 minutes from my house and they are mounting them overnight in time for the weekend, but for a rush fee. all in all it's costing me 70 bucks plus gas and toll, vs the origional shop that should have had them mounted by today for 30 bucks done. Any Mountain in Concord CA, a shop that is usually ok, employs a stubborn old tech. Apparently they have another one thats way better, but this guy sucks.

I should have just taken them home and mounted them myself. I just don't own a drill and didnt want to put a hole all the way through my new skis.

I went into a local shop and asked if they had the px12 jig when the px model first came out, and the guy, who was one of the techs, said, and I quote "Look? I didn't know they still made bindings."  Yep.

find a shop/shop tech n become buds with em. youd be amazed with the "illegal" shit that you can get mounted up once you do that. like stuff that should be legit illegal to own from 1984. i seen it!

thats rediculous. ive heard of them charging more, because the jigs are narrow, so they have to hand mount on fat skis. but they are still indemnified.
