Had it today....sobs....

Just curious how many people out there have torn it this season? For you guys who've torn them before...how long before you were skiing hard again. cheawerd

i only had to wait a couple weeks to get surgery cuz mine didn't swell at all for some reason, i honestly didn't think i even tore it lol but my rehab prolly took about 5 and a half months but i started feeling good around 4.5, i didnt get healthy until april then so living in mass there was no where to ski really so i had to wait until the next season............hit rehab hard and you will get healthy. best of luck!

2 seasons ago for me, had surgery in june and was riding at the start of the season in november. it wasn't too bad. just make sure you rehab as often and much as possible, that's the key from bouncing back in 4 months instead of 6...

i tore mine in october and had surgery nov. 5th im 3 months out kno and im able to do normal activity and im starting to run now, im hoping i can go to a spring jam in april to at least go once this year, but the first few moths u gotta be real careful, i went snowmobiling two moths out thinking it wouldnt be a problem and i ended up hving a set back in my therapy, pushed me back three weeks, make sure u do therapy and try to stay away from activity the first few months

tore mine febuary 16th last year (oversot a barrel) and had to wait til September to get surgery, wtf? but I got it and I am 5 months out now and back just riding around. not supposed to do park til this september (1 year post surgery) so yeah, just riding around now

its been 10 months since my surgery and ive been hitting rails and straight airing small jumps but i still havent spun yet.  REHAB every chance you get. I havent had as much time to go because im super busy but if you do that you can be back to skiing park hard in like 8 months or less.  my knee still bothers me sometimes but its my meniscus not my acl.  after a certain point you acl will be 100% but your muscles wont be as strong around it, so make sure you continue rehab for a long time.

I tore mine Jan 21st. Been rehabbing super hard, and I'm having surgery March 3rd.

Any of you guys ski without an ACL before surgery? Because I'm kinda tempted, but also feel that I would be really pissed if I feel and hurt it more

i tore mine and skied on it for 2 months because the doctor i went to refused to give me an mri.  he said if i tore it i would be in and insane amount of pain and told me to come back n 3 weeks if it didnt feel better.  i came back 3 weeks later, he told me to wait another 3 weeks.   i said fuck him and went straight to my orthopedist to get an MRI script. got the mri, completely torn,  my meniscus was partially torn too.  You cant hurt your acl anymore than it already is, but if its torn you can hyper extend your knee, which i did.  that shit hurts like a bitch, and might be why i partially tore my meniscus.

Ive torn both acls.  Both times had the surgery at the beginning of June.  Was skiing for opening day, and Shredding hard by January.

tore mine last year jan 1st and had surgery the 23rd...been skiing 47 days so far...I've been able to ski hard everyday without it hurting... as long as your reallly good about doing rehab you'll do fine. it's important to strengthen all the leg muscles evenly to take pressure of the knee joint.

Pretty much destroyed my knee 2 1/2 weeks ago and had surgery a few days later to repair a ruptured patellar tendon, blown medial patellar-femoral ligament and meniscus. I've got 6 weeks of non-weight bearing, then 2-4 weeks of PT to get motion back, THEN I get my ACL done. Fun times, especially with Tahoe really starting to get good...

i had it when i was 14, and i tore my ACL and MCL as well as fracturing my knee bone, it was 6 months before i was skiing again but only cause the season ended, i was dirt biking at about 3, and now i wear a knee brace

Just had my second surgery today. Shit sucks man, but watch ski movies and get motivated and rehab hard and you'll get through it. Oh yeah and painkillers help too.

I torn my acl this time last year. Had surgery about mid to late march. It started rehab two days after surgery and by mid may i was walking around a disk golf course. I got my brace in september and have not had a problem skiing this year. my knee gets super sore after riding really hard, but its nothing that ice and stretching cant cure. My biggest recommendation is to do what your therapist say, ride a bike outside of PT, ice, and stretch as much as possible. I am skiing this season as though i never missed a beat. At first i was really nervous to do any type of spin, then i started spinning on small jumps and hitting small rails. Eventually i became comfortable enough with my knee and brace and got back to the level i was at before i tore my acl. Keep your head up. Itll be healed before you know it!

Good news - im less than a year out of surgery and im skiing 100%!!!

good luck with dude, thats about the 6th month mark, you'll be lucky if ur doc lets u go, im gonna try to be goin to tha spring jam in april, which will be 5 and a half months out, ill find out nxt month, im doubting but can only pray for it

I tore my ACL, MCL, and did something to my meniscus about a year and a half ago. I had my surgery about 5 months later. I dont know why I had to wait so long, but my doctor said it would be better than way. After my surgery I couldnt lift my leg at all and I then found out I had nerve damage from my doctor by taking some kind of test. I also did the mistake of not rehabbing right after surgery as much as I did, so you should do that as much as possible. Overall, I missed last season and Im skiing this season but not park. I cant hit jumps or rails and I dont want to risk it. Good luck! Remember to rehab a lot and take it easy when you get back onto skis.

i tore mine 14 months ago along with my mcl and meniscus.  to this day its still not 100% and i doubt it ever will be.  it hurts everyday i ski, still cant butter or land backseat.  shitty

Got surgery 2 days ago....today was mad painful but I start rehab next week so it will feel like 1 day closer to skiing...from what ive gathered im just gonna work the shit outta my knees n whole body. gotta come back stronger than ever. Im hoping that I can ski by the end of the summer but its unlikely according to the doc. Setting my goals high tho. Thanks for the support everyone and good luck to yall in the same position as me.

Good luck, man. Look at it this way: you had surgery around the same time TJ did last year. He worked his ass off, and look what happened at the X-Games a couple of weeks ago. Keep that in your head for inspiration.

depends how long you wait between initial injury and surgery, if the swelling is completely gone at the time of surgery and you work really hard at getting back you;ll be good to ski next year (8 months later).... You should still use the brace that you get at first when you start skiing, then start slowly without one...dont get wack though, dont hit anything you havent done easily before.

I tore my ACL and partially tore my MCL. Got surgery yesterday, so I'm laid up in bed now for like a week. everything feels good though, and neither the anesthesia nor the pain pills are making me sick, so that's good.

a brace is good for support, and personally i become kinda attached to mine. buy my doc said that a brace won't keep you from re-tearing your acl, because it doesn't protect against the twisting motion that will cause a tear

i tore my ACL in november, doctor said I wouldn't be walking/skiing with a torn acl, so i skied on it for a month pretty hard, jumps and rails and shit, then i got an MRI which said i had a complete acl disruption(obviously) and minor meniscus tear, got surgery in early january.  I rehabbed really fucking hard, was on crutches for like 24 hours, was riding the exercise bike after 2 weeks, working out every day plus walking around an hour or two a day to go to class. I'm about 9 weeks out and can jog pretty comfortably, squat about a hundred pounds for a few sets(used to squat around 220, i weigh around 150), and i feel like i could go cruise groomers with a brace next month and film my homies. my physical therapist says she doesnt know what to think about me because shes been doing it for 15 years and hasnt really seen anyone recover this quickly(my knees literally look identical save for the scars). I have a doctors appt in a few weeks. we'll see. I'm sure hes going to say no skiing but I'm praying. and working out. but mostly praying.

oh and my doc was dr swanson at tahoe orthopedic, he's a us ski team guy and one of the best so he'll know the deal. fucking need to ski!!!!

What grafts did everyone have i had the Patellar and its still sore some days in the front of my knee. Also anyone with this graft how long until you skied park all the time and it didnt hurt.

the only advice i can give you is to take rehab completely serious and don't come back too early, the acl is the worst ligament to tear and extensive rehab will greatly improve your chances of preventing it next time around

Its been a bad year for knee injuries eh. Got 6 days into the season before I tore my ACL for the second time. Had surgery in January and saw the doctor today and he said I should be skiing in a month (thats 3 months rehab). I'll have to take it easy and ski groomers for a while. As far as my experience goes its at least 5 months till your back in the park (yay glacier skiing!) but for me it always takes longer to get my confidence back. I think its different for everyone, but if you're mega in-shape you'll generally recover faster. Good luck to everyone with bad knees!

My brother tour his acl and meniscus in december.  two days before christmas.      and i may have tour my meniscus going in tomorrow to see if i did...        my bro is going to go skiing next weekend ahahah

I blew mine last year in January and was in a deep state of denial for a month or so, so i waited on surgery until mid february. I got a cadaver graft which i highly highly recommend mainly because the three other people i know who blew their knees during the same season and got hamstring grafts either re-blew them or had immense amounts of trouble getting back on their feet. For me it took awhile to start walking because i tore my meniscus as well, but once i was walking and back on a bike it was only a short while until i was rollerblading and skateboarding, (3 months out) doing easy tricks. Slowly I worked into doing drops and jumping just to see how it felt and surprisingly it felt fine. At 6 months exactly i went skiing at hood which got me anxious, so on my second run back on skis i started trying stuff doing spins on/off rails and still had no problems which kept building confidence. By December Dew Tour rolled around which was scary because i hadn't yet hit big jumps, but i was willing to see how it was and once again it didn't bother me at all, in fact i hit the jumps without a knee brace and was spinning. So, soon after i ditched the brace completely and from then until now i have no complaints my knee's feel the same for the most part and i can ski as hard as I can. I believe a lot of the recovery is mental and keeping on top of your rehabilitation. Good Luck.

i tore mine febuary 28th, and am having surgery april 10th. this friday, i am scared shitless. haha. i plan to rehab as much as possible i want to be back in full for next season. i have an appt tuesday to see whats going i think, im not even sure what the appt is for. i hope all is well. like said above hyperextending my knee hurts like a mother fucker. thats the only pain im in.

i had surgery yesterday. my leg is still completely numb, the leg block was an adult sized one, and im only a 140 lbs. im quiet confused on what i can do, what i cant do. i have no fucking idea about anything involving my knee at this point. pretty shitty instruction by the doc. all is well i suppose.
