Spine Guard

So I have been debating awhile if I should get a back protector and some of those impact shorts, and I think I am going to get some, might as well, nothing to lose. My friend from Sweden who is an amazing skier has a spine guard thing, and I keep seeing more people wearing impact shorts, I saw a coach of some kids in line at Squaw on a powder day with some impact shorts, and I just see them around.


So my first question is: does anyone know if this is good?

price seems to be about right. also anyone know what size to get, I think I'm a little over 6-1.


and anyone know of any good impact shorts. the Red basic impact shorts from backcountry.com look pretty good, but $80 dollars is a little steep.



if you have stuff that you don't use anymore and would be willing to sell, or if you know of any good deals, please post them up

kind of looks like to many pads on the ass, but other then that good.

and maybe this spine protector would be better.

demon snow is EXCELLENT. its low profile and padded where you need it.

the POC spine suit doesnt cover your shoulders, a frequent impact area for me.

ya I was looking at the low, but I did not see the high at dogfunk. You would reccomend the high and not the spine protector? or both or what?

I have a POC one and I thought that it wouldn't spin or anything like that, I don't notice it at all, it's great and makes me feel that more comfortable when I fall.
Got one last season after I pinched a muscle in my back (no fun)

But yea, a good investment for sure, anyone have good experiences with like sponge pants or whateva?

Look on some mountain biking sites. Mountain biking has had them for a while and you can usually find some that are cheaper with MTB brands

Yes yes yes, get one, One of our team had to go to emergency for back injury.  Cost was $600 just for the ambulance ride.  Plus all the other crap. And lots of pain. Now she is out for we do not know how long.  I am going to get a POC this week.

I Have spine protection and ass protection. I stacked hard several weeks ago and I'm still having pain but with the protection I can at least get out there.

I think everyone should get it. Your spine is pretty important and getting hurt isnt much fun

poc bug series. i love it. deffinately worth the money. actually helps to keep your spine in line so when landing your vertebre dont have an achordian affect and squish together. my back has not hurt one day since i bought the bug series. deffinately worth the money

i would highly recommend slytech spin protectors. the biggest problem with back protectors would be their comfort level, most are very low, if it is uncomfortable you wont wear it rendering it useless. the slytechs are pretty comfortable and they are fis approved for all of alpine skiing events.

I got some pro-tec impact shorts at Dicks for $50. They are pretty thickly padded, I haven't wiped out hard enough to know for sure yet though

I have the slytech too i even use it for skiercross and it has stopped me from braking my back twice.
Before it I had the Poc but it was a little uncomfortable and bulky and restriced movement a bit because it was hard but because the slytech is softish until it goes hard it is better for skiing and doing tricks.
A little pricey but it's worth it.
