Follow Cam Question

I heard someone saying you want to have image stabilization off when using a wide angle or fisheye for follow cams
i know only a tripod will solve shaky footage but wondering the best way to take follow cams so you dont need to do a lot of post stabilization

I brace the camera at the base of my sternum or at my hip.  I have a bigger camera so it's easier to hold it steady and keep it braced against myself.

I never use the OIS.  Just practice keeping the camera firm against your body and us your arms as free moving "shock mounts" and compensate for any jerky motion.  Also, if you can, add a little bit of weight to the bottom of the camera, that should help a bit.

If you have a camera that can handle it, you can also buy a monopod and screw that into the bottom of the camera. Then you just hold the camera by its handle up top... assuming it has one... and just let the monopod stabilize the shot. Try as hard as you can to keep your arms loose so as to remove the camera from your body. Doing all of this will keep your shot looking floaty and smooth rather than jagged and shaky.

I also use OIS on my camera and the results seem better than if I don't.

Now i am going to disagree with Hornier for once i would agree with him if you are standing still or leaning agnsed a tree you should rest the camera agnsed you. If you are riding and doing a follow your body is moving like crazy so keep the camera in your hands and use your arms to stabalize as much as you can. Keep in mind where your subject is and always use a wideangle or fisheye. I am building a new Stabalizer for follow cams that should be verry easy and cheap i will post it up if it works.
