If you know anyone in Southern California and got a place to stay, now is the time to bring your skis.
with 5 feet of snow in 3 days, and two bluebird days in a row before another 7 to 9 days of storms out in the Pacific, it's getting pretty insane out here, and getting close to epic status. Mt Baldy is So. Cal's only "real " big mountain ski area outside of Mammoth, which is really up in Cental/ eastern Sierra. (not southern Cal.) We're hoping to see some NS'ers out here for this, if you are out here go check this sick ass mountain. www.mtbaldy.com
We just sessioned with alex from PBP Sunday, and he was blown away by the chutes, cliff hucks, open bowls, and glades that are just 45 miles from downtown LA, and 60 miles from the beach. Powder and Freeze, have done stories about this place, locals want to keep it somewhat under the radar, because it's a unique place that's not all blown out with crowds and the flatlander snowboard scene's of Big Bear and Wrightwood's "corporate resorts". This mountain is bad ass, and welcomes more and more core skiers, with super loose restrictions on Back Country, and rowdy lines that you will not find at other hill's down here. You can even see the Pacific Ocean from the top of chair 3, including Catalina Island, Newport Beach, and HB. So a heads up to all NS'ers, come check it! You'll be stoked !! Pictures below.
