I have to say I am a little disappointed.....

I broke my pair of 4FRNT STL's around 2-3 weeks ago now. I don't know how it happened but the edge on my tail ripped out and the base peeled back a bit. So any who I email 4FRNT the next day, tell them what happened and ask if they can do anything fairly soon as I have a North American Half pipe competition coming up and I needed skis that i know aren't gonna break in training or anything. I expected the email to take 2 days to get a reply, but to my surprise the next day there was an email from them in my inbox. I was very pleased. They asked to send pictures of the ski and they would look at them and get pack to me. So sure enough I took pictures and sent them, hoping that they would get back to me the next day I got on my email and I had another message from them. YES! No, it was in fact an automated message saying they would be away for a few days at SIA and they would look at emails when they got back. So I waited until about 2 days after SIA was over and I emailed them again the same email because I hadn't gotten a reply yet. So I got another automated email saying that they wouldn't be back till the 6th of February. So I once again waited and went on february 7th and no reply still, so I sent it again. Checked yesterday, no reply. Today once again, no reply. I am a little frustrated right now as the comp is in a week and I need new skis but I don't want to go buy some skis and then get an email from 4FRNT telling me they'll warranty them. I would still need to get them mounted and get used to them as well. I would really just like an answer yes or no, so I can figure stuff out. However I don't think I'll be dealing with 4FRNT again, not just because of this....

So on the other hand could anyone recommend a good ski for me? I'm looking for something in the 175 range. I am 5'7 155 lbs and they will def be center mounted. I am a pretty aggressive skier I guess and I'm looking for a ski for pipe, jumps and rails for the time being. My STL's (Graffiti ones) were pretty soft and I loved them, but I think maybe something a little bit stiffer would do, but not that much stiffer. I was looking at the Line Anthems

They would get destroyed on rails. But I think next year maybe for a strictly park ski.

oh, and I had too dissapointing experiences with 4frnts ski quality and their warranty policy. Idk, but i destroyed every single 4frnt ski I had within no time and only got one of them replaced (broke it at first day skiing). A friend of mine had the same issues.
As a consequence i switched to Armada, which is a way better company from that point of view

Dumonts... I know EVERYONE has them but you can't go wrong with salamon. (in my opinion)

Im sure someone will dissagree with me and start hating but they're great skis.

Oh don't get me wrong I love my stl's, they are just not so good quality wise. The Dumonts do sound alright but I heard salomon is having troubles with their skis this year. Can someone prove me wrong?

Any one know much about the Dynastar Trouble's? I heard they were more pipe specific so the edges would probably not hold up but if any one knows please share.

Yea, I have a pair of Armada JJ's and about two or so weeks ago I delamed them. e-mailed Armada, they got back to me pretty quick to tell me they will be at SIA and will deal with me after. Shortly after SIA Armada contacted me and we sorted it all out. My new ski will be with me this week (maybe even tomorrow). I was very impressed with Armada for their friendliness and promptness of taking care of the situation. I have found that Salomon also has a good warrantee thing going on... at least for their bindings, not sure how they are with skis. It makes me sad that 4Front isn't communicating with you and will take a note of it for the future (for myself and friends).

Let us (or maybe just me?) know when they do get back to you, I am curious about this.

same shit happened to me.  ripped out a good half foot of edge right underfoot, so i emailed 4frnt.  never got an email back so i said fuck it and bought new skis.  i figured the best they would do is take like 5 weeks to warranty them, send me new ones, and im back on skis at the end of the season, just in time to rip out the edges

If you can find some salomon thrusters go with those, if you can find them theyll be $200 or less. Theyre not that great of an overall park ski but they rock for pipe, theyre one of the lightest skis ever made and the flex and side cut just works so well for pipe.


oh yeah and sorry about 4frnt, theyre a very "special" brand.

i think they were just having trouble with the suspects... but i could be wrong. it seems to me the larger the company you go with the more likely you will get better customer service

I dont know if they're just having problems with the suspects, one of my friends has both the dumonts and suspects and broke one of his dumonts in half earlier this season.

Did you try phoning them? That might help you out. As for other skis I can only really recommend Armada.

check out mips man. ill ski a pair every day for like 4 or 5 months before the edges crack or wear down but i think that beats the hell out of dynastars or others edges and i havnt had one delam since theyve been made at elan http://www.ninthward.com/index_team.html.

well, i was just in the jib academy, and my pro was seth warner, and he was skiing on the new dumonts. so since i was riding up on the chair with him and talking about different skis i asked him how his had been holding up for him. his one ski had a topsheet chip that was almost more of a tear becaus it was about three inches long and half to 3/4 inch wide and the dumonts he was on were brand new. he also mentioned that if the edges fail, the edge armor actually pulls up the base of the ski and causes more damage than good.

on the other hand, the rossignol s4 would make an excellent pipe and park ski. comes in 174

i'm a bit bewildered by the choice of the anthem as a ski that is really suitable for something like a big pipe comp.

Anyway, if you're on the fence about something like the Trouble and its durability on rails and such, go with the trouble maker. A touch different (mostly just because it's a touch wider) but more rail durability. Either makes a solid-as-fuck pipe ski.

The dumont, also, is a choice pipe ski (nice wood core and all).

And there are other choices, too, but... anthems - fun as hell ski, not so well in pipe (at a competitive level that is).

does anyone have expirience with LINEs warranty, i've emailed them before and they have promptly replied but not for a warranty issue.

Here is why. In a smaller company, you are actually going to get the attention of someone who works with, skis, and has a hands on approach with the product they are selling. Keeping their customers happy is going to mean much more to them individually as well as for the company as a whole. Keep in mind that it is ALWAYS better to talk to somebody on the phone versus sending an email. No matter how professional the email is, talking to somebody is more personal.

On the other hand Salomon is huge and they actually hire people just to deal with customer service and returns. That is all they do. So, you might have some luck here, however they are stingy on what is returned because they have the capital to have a much more limited warranty.

4FRNT hasn't proven to have the fastest warranty and replacements but they more than likely will come through. Smaller companies like Bluehouse, Liberty and Armada have customer service on lock and I will try to support them as much as possible because of the extra effort they put into customer service.

and lj and ahemlt (sorry for spelling) uses them for jibbing so they hold up for rails

bummer on the warranty, ive been hearing similar things about 4frnt for years now.

atomic punx are a pretty well proven park/pipe ski. super light weight, symmetrical, and reinforced underfoot. they hold up really well, are super stable with plenty of pop, and atomic is a pleasure to deal with.

just a thought, good luck with the search.

4frnt are honestly such bitches when it comes to warranty. That's why I don't even bother with them anymore. Good skis, except durability is shit.

Buy another brand because you 99% won't get another pair of skis out of your situation.

I broke my blends earlier this year. I liked them very much. However, dealing with Line was a total pain in the ass. They honored the warranty but they took thier fucking sweet time and were doooosh bags.

4frnts make the worst built skis physically possible, both the pairs of stls I had fell apart after 3 days of park skiing. Whatever you do don't get 4frnts, try a legit company like atomic, rossi, or k2 for durability.
