Front Page Advertisement...

What are your thoughts on the Under Armour ad on the front page. It may be subtle but its there. It's interesting to see advertising, you wouldn't see ads on the front page of a magazine...

How often will it be updated? It's a great concept. How will it work though? Will companies submit whatever they please and ns.com will have to upload it? Or will ns have a say in what can be displayed and what can not?

Not to bash under armour but I'm sure anyone who has picked up a ski mag in the last 6 months has already seent that shot. One of the reasons I choose to keep my splash page displayed is because of the new and creative pictures featured there.

This was an experiment that Scott Hibbert came up with over a night of tequila shots at IF3. Under Armour is doing a great job supporting the site this year, (wait for the upcoming announcement) and Scott wanted to try some new cool stuff.

You'll also notice that the splash page is back to being full-time now, which in my mind is a really good thing.

We'll see how this goes. We're working with our sponsors to figure out new ways to get the message out other than just typical banner advertisements... which you all seem to ignore. :)

As with everything on NS, your feedback is always appreciated, and nothing we do is ever set in stone... we can always tweak with what you, the end user wants.

I like it, as long as the advertisement part of it stays pretty subtle and the main focus is always a dope picture I have no complaints. Its a cool way for companies to get a little different kind of exposure without being intrusive.

I lked the ad when it was just the photo with the small under armour logo in the bottom left.

That being said, I am now seeing a very BUSY background behind the shot, that simply has too much going on. Sometimes less is more.

I think its a good idea to have ads on the front page (nice one hibbert) but as long as it stays in line with the fact that it needs to be accompanied by a sick ski shot which should take up the majority of the real estate.

I'm not opposed to the idea but it's just way too busy looking.  It takes away from the awesomeness of the picture. 


And all these advertisements are slowing down the site.

It's a good idea if it generates any reasonable revenue. I'm definitely going to miss all of the sick shots that used to get posted.  Seems like most these ads are going to be stuff we've already seen in freeskier

No - I was talking about this with Scott and I think that its better to use fresh sick shots.

We're looking for some cool ones now, and I think that heading into the future this should be the way to approach this.

Because fresh cool shots are money.

Yeah i see no need for overlap and with the number of people taking shots of people skiing these days, there shouldn't be any overlap between us and FS...
