Final cut help!?!?! +karma

so i imported a bunch of footage, like 11 minute clips and im trying to find the best way to cut them up and organize the tricks by name. for instance every clip of me goes in the trevor folder (or bin).
how do you guys do it? im having a hard time, and i think im doing it in a really slow fashion

spark notes: how do you cut up and organize long clips in final cut pro???

I do the play upload pause method. Where I upload it until I want to make another clip and then pause the camera and then continue again. it takes a while but that's one way to get multiple clips.

 But what you might want to try is make the folders and then in the viewer window of the clip you can make the markers. I for where it starts and then O for where you want it to end. then drag that marked clip into the folder.  That may not work though, because it still has the original clips name so it may mess up. I haven't tried that with folders though, so I guess try that.

yeah thats what i did, but they all have the same name which was the real problem, i was hoping to have them all organized by trick name, in the persons name folder and then editing would be a breeze

ill keep trying though

It's okay, since you already gave me some.

Try copy, pasting one clip and renaming the other, then take the clips you want from one of the renamed ones, that way you will wont lose the original or whatever.

if you just have master shots, and are cutting in the timeline, then dropping back into the bin, renaming it will rename the master clip too. Make your cuts, right click, select "make independent" then drop it in and rename it. It's much easier to name and organize as you capture though. Spend the time, set up the batch capture, then go make a sandwich and let the program/camera do all the work.

With the large clips like that you just use the DV START/STOP Detect tool on the clip. Do that and it will make the clip have a drop down and put it into every time you paused and recorded. Next time you should capture clip by clip and just name them as you go. To do that you go to the capture screen (command 8) and then just under name you put what you want every time. Hope that helps. To find DV Stop Start detect you just type it into the help thing and it will point it out for you. Good tool for using large clips
