Windstopper recomendations (excluding North Face)

I get cold pretty easily, so I decided to invest in a nice windstopper to wear for layering.  Suggestions?  Only restraint is that I will not buy a North Face fleece as it is well documented that you gain 17 douchebag points when you wear one.

Why hate on North Face?
Their stuff is some of the most tech out there. Sure it may not be your style but there is no reason to hate on it.

In a lot of places, lots of preppy kids wear northface shit, its a fact. Nothing like seeing someone with a jacket that you could climb everest in, but they are just happy it repels the beer they spill on themselves.

I dont hate people that wear them really... my suitemate has a nice fur-hooded one, and I call him Expedition Lerman because of it.

The OP dosen't want to be seen as someone like that, so it makes perfect sense that he would shy away from Northface.

Precisely.  Here is a quote, honest to God, that was said to my buddy, who was wearing and Orage jacket at the time:

"Dude, aren't you like a really good skier?"
"Yeah, I guess."
"They why don't you wear North Face stuff?"

This was said on a ski trip where Mr. North Face skied for probably a total of 5 hours over the course of a week.  Fratty frat frats and rich bitches in Uggs; that's the North Face market.

I have now qualms with the company and would definitely consider it if I was taking a Himilayan expedition to rescue the Yeti from global warming.

I'm in a fraternity and I dont own a single northface item. Fraternities aren't what most people have them stereotyped as (at least mine isn't). But I do see where you're coming from, there are SO many people at my school who wear northfaces, 95% of them arent in a fraternity, its probably just because they are functional.

But srsly, check out the mountain hardwear windstopper tech vest. I've had mine for years, I took it on the Appalachian Trail with me for 5 1/2 months (claim) and have taken it on every hike I've been on since. I also wear it all the time as a layer under my ski jacket or for just rompin around town. its dope, and has certainly seen some abuse and still looks great. I would still wear it if I didnt outgrow it.

I would recommend Patagonia bud.  Their gear is high quality and reasonably priced .  I also have experience with and like Orage, Helly Hansen, and Spyder.  They are all great products, but they tend to be high priced.

Wow... Whats with the NF hate... They make some legit stuff, I'm wearing a 1984 North Face coat, its more waterproof and warmer than most of the stuff out there. I would say that columbia is way more of a fat bitch clothing company than NF, and Burton is pretty much the king when it comes to douchewear. Not saying Burton doesn't make some nice gear though.

Do yourself a favor and buy some REI or Underarmor layers, a decent sweater, and a good shell. Mountain Hardware, or something like that. Layer up, and you won't get cold. If you get hot, take the layers off. I have really poor circulation, but my North Face coat and layers keeps me super warm at - 25 F

Patagonia is sweet. I've got the R4 fleece and it's the warmest/nicest jacket I've ever owned. It's a bit bulky for layering but it will definitely keep the wind and cold out.
