So I have been trying to figure out how to get custom ringtones on my phone (Samsung R610) for a while and after some research I found out that the only way to do it was by hacking it and dropping the converted audio file into the ring tone file. Now this is a really complicated process and I didn't feel like fucking up my phone cause I just bought it. So I did some more research and I found a much better way of doing it. So here it goes!
1) Find an mp3 file you want as a ring tone, then go to this site http://www.makeownringtone.com/ and upload it there. Here, you can crop out the part of the song you want to use as a ring tone, then save it to your desktop by following the idiot-proof steps. Using any other program to crop the song works too.
2) Next, take a random video with your phone and save it. This will show us what file extention your phone saves videos with (my phone saves to .3g2). Next, download this program (free and spyware free, I scanned it. Feel free to research it yourself - here's the link to the website: http://www.erightsoft.com/SUPER.html ) The link below is just a direct link to download the setup file; the site is kind of complicated and covered in ads.
http://www.erightsoft.biz/GetFile.php?SUPERsetup.exe
It's called SUPER and it's purpose is basically to convert videos to filetypes associated with phones. Download it, and install it.
3) Open SUPER, and drag-and-drop your mp3 ringtone that you made from the other website to the white box at the bottom. The interface is pretty complicated but heres what you should know.
-Check the "Disable Video" box. We don't actually need any video for this to work. Make sure the 48k audio box is checked and nothing else.
-For Audio, use these settings:
Sampling Freq - 22050
Channels - 2
Bitrate - 128
DVD Language select - default
4) Now we are ready to save it. At the top left of the page, you will see a red box that says Select the Output Container. There, you will select the file extention your phone uses to save video. Leave the Output Video and Audio codecs alone they don't need to be changed (defaults MPEG-4 and AAC LC).
5) Once you have it all set up, click the box beside your mp3 file so it's checked, then click encode! The video will save to the directory where you installed the program so you can retrieve it there
6) Copy-paste your video to the same place your phone stores videos (phone must have a microSD card and a USB cable)
7) Unplug your phone. Now you can assign this video as a ringtone through your phone. For instance in my phone I go to the menu then Sounds - Ringers - Voice Calls - My Videos - (check my video) and Assign.
8) You now have your own custom ringtone! The video won't show up because there is no video saved to it, even though it's a video file. The video shows up on my phone as a big red X but it still plays. You might also want to make sure the video plays so just select it and test it out.
So this should work for any video phone even though I've only tried it with mine. Give it a try with yours and let me know if it works!
