those are two great pictures, i personally like the second one because of its angle and contrast, has alot of value

both of those are so sick! i especially like the first one because it is just one one of those pics that has a certain feel to it. +k for taking sick shots man!

ps. wat camera are u shooting?

thanks man! your right it has that feel i thought so too.

i am shooting with a canon rebel xti that was with a pheonix 19-35mm wide angle

I like both very much i think #1 is my favorite but #2 has a cool angle. I also like the lack of color.

first one uses a wide aperture real well...i like the contrast too

the positioning in the second is sick...and the clouds are real crazy lookin too. i like the second one...i did a photostudy on a few powerplants near my house...i'll upload them and show em to you cuz its the same idea.

the first one is not bad, it does convey a sense that it is a cold day out, with the ice on the branch, which is really captured well, the under exposure works well here.  You might want to try and crop out the side of the building on the left next time.  other wise it works well, the medium depth of field is not bad either, while the evergreen is out of focus it is still recognizable as a tree.

I don't really understand the second shot? whats the point of it?   While there is nothing technically wrong with it, there is just nothing special, nothing that makes it stand out.

ture i overlooked the building. and yes i thought the underexposure worked good with it.

the second one is just like shilluetted and stand out from the awesome cloud pattern in the back. i took it on an angle because its a different way of looking at powering the world with electricity and such. the place where it was taken is complete middle of the woods in an open field. the reason i like it so much is like the awesome clould in the back are like a picture from nature and this man made thing gets tossed into the mix

like them both the first is sweet tho i wish there was more emphasis on the ends of the branchs but its a tricky shot and the second is sweet cause its a simplistic thing that you dont think of as a photographable thing, but in essence its america. the large towers for power just like the oil pumps in texas as simple as they are they make great when photographed in a good light situation

Honest Opinions:

First one is very well done. I like the contrast with the blacks and whites. You utilize pure black along with pure white very well. I like the fact that it is darker, it portrays that with the subject, angle etc... Over all I like it a lot.

With the second one, not so much. Like someone above me posted there is no point. Its a picture of a electrical tower. Its a nice angle and the lines flow, but there's nothing to the picture really. Think about the doing that in black and white and really making it interesting. Think and plan out the shot before you stand under it and shoot. Get right up next to it and get the texture of the metal with the wires blurred out using a low aperture. There are tons of creative things you can do, just think about combing it with different angles and approaches to the shot.

harsh yes, but also true.

you say it was in the middle of woods and an open field?  why not show it? right now It could be in the middle of an industrial park or the ocean, or wherever.  Try and show the contrast between nature and industrialization or whatever it is you want to show.

like the tones in the first one and the light effect on the ice... making it better though, I'd think about a more precise focal point (tip of a branch, water drop, whatever tickles your nuggets) because my eyes are getting a little lost.

The second one: I like the powerful angle (ha, powerful) and the impression it creates upon the sky... but overall the image is a bit muted (if you want to make a strong statement about our impact the image should pop more) and maybe a little underexposed (a little more light on the tower wouldve been nice).

#1 - its good, but really busy. the lines have no real sense of movement, and dont draw the eye in to the photo. under exposing does add a certain mood to the photo, and it works with this one. Good B&W tones, the focus seems to be sharp

#2 - the angle is nice, but this is entirely pedestrian. the lines are complementing, which is good but nothing really stands out from this one.

I think you are getting a good start, keep practicing.

btw, never call photos...pictures. you do photography, not pictography
