Powder skis

I'm 6'4" 160lbs. I'm looking for a pow ski to play around on in pow, do some steeps with in pow, bc booters, groomers when going back to the chair and the occasional park run for when i feel like fucking around. I'm considering the 189 hellbents cause of the length but I'm afraid they might be too soft. I have 185 arv's now and they feel pretty soft and a bit short because I got them mounted near the center but i dont mind it. I would go with JJ's but they're too short for me.

AND Should I mount with fks or jesters?

im also thinking about bibby's and obsetheds to. would obsethed be to close of a width to my arvs?

I have the obSETHed, and feel that they're pretty good, but they're only like 10 mm wider than your Armada's I think you might want something a bit wider.

Next year's Bibby in 190 would be good.
186 Night Train sounds pretty sick, can't comment on how it skis though.

Once 190 bibby's come out ill look into those. will 186 night train be long enough? and i want something rockered.

I'm 6'2" and 175 lbs and have ridden my 185cm JJ's more days than any of my other skis yet this year. Due to the lack of a winter at this point in the PNW, I have even taken them on days that I really should have been riding something more suited for the conditions (other daily drivers are 188cm Lib Tech NAS Freerides) but the JJ's are versatile, agile and just more fun period.

I agree, the length could be a bit longer for bigger, and more aggressive skiers, but the 185cm does pretty much everything you could ask for with this type of ski. 188 - 195cm would be amazing. I mounted at recommended (5cm back) with Jesters and I don't regret it one bit, they are a very light setup.

Problem being, if you want 185cm JJ's they are hard to find right now.

Just because Jesters are all the new NS rage and all the pros ride them doesnt excuse the fact that they are over priced pieces of plastic, basically glorified px heels. Mount them up with FKS (rumor has it they might be back next year with wider brakes), PX series, or some Sollys

i currently have fks on my arv's and love them. just that everyone raves about jesters so i thought that those might be good.

Right now Jesters are trendy. They haven't been around long enough to prove anything. I have had the same Look Pivot (turntable) bindings for 6 years now. When Jesters last that long I wont trash on them so much.

so far ive only heard complaints about jesters performance and no complaints about fks except for the fact that they stopped making them.

i forgot about how much of a pain it was to bend them, taking them apart and putting them back together really sucks. now back to what skis i should get.

Out of the skis you mentioned I have no experience with any of them. I definitely wouldnt rule out Hellbents (as cliche as they're becoming) LL2s, and S7s

The pontoons are the best reviewed pow skis ever. Perhaps get them?

However, my S5s are absolutely epic and I have never skied a ski I like more.

I would go with the pontoons if I were you, if winter actually came to eastern BC this year I would have gotten them.

You can do anything on Hellbents.  So I hear at least, and from what I've seen.  In IDEA Pep is riding them in the pipe at Park City hitting 60 foot tables on them and hucking big cliffs into deep pow.  You could do anything on them.  I could tell you after this coming weekend.  My Griffon is on the way and once it gets here I'll be in my shop so fast.  I can't wait.  We're supposed to get a lot of snow soon.  It's cool, they're soft in the tip and tail but stiff underfoot and you still get sidecut for groomers.  Definitely put a Jester or Griffon on whatever ski you get.  You could probably get a Griffon because you're light.  My shop wasn't able to get a 130 brake for a Jester/Griffon and told me good luck finding one.  In three clicks I found them on evogear along with Griffons for $170.

Haha, what is your reasoning for this other than because they are new and and trendy on NS?

Stick to a time tested binding like FKS, Px, or some of the Solly series.

I haven't skied many different powder skis; but from what you are explaining that you want to be able to do (ski pow whilst being able to still use the skis for a bit of park and standard shredding around the mountain); I'd say at least try and demo a pair of Liberty Helix; 105mm underfoot; bamboo core so nice and light ; standard camber so they perform well on hardpack etc. A very fun ski which performs well in powder; epsecially tight tree lines.

I got a pair of Fatypus Alottas and have been impressed especially compared to the pontoons. Both are a dream in the pow but the alottas are still fun on groomers.
