Anyone ever work for REI?

I'm pretty sure I'm getting a job in the Snow/Bike/Paddle section as a sales rep. I hear the benefits are awesome, and that you get to demo any of the gear they sell at the store, and rent out for free. Any positive of negative REI experiences?

That'll be a sweet job...I've never been to REI, but as far as I understand it's very similar to our MEC in Canada.... nice one!

I did a project and want to get a job with PEI (playboy enterprises inc.) I've never heard of REI. If it's at all like MEC, I've done a project on MEC too. I don't know why you would care, but yeah.

They're a good store and all, but most of the time you can find much better deals if you look around. Especially if you know what you want

Yeah their prices are nothign special. I just love the place because when I go there, the sales people know their shit, and you know they will help you with whatever questions you may have. Plus, I was talking to the person that is hiring me today, and it sounds liek I get 30-50% off all gear, 10% of Sale Gear, Pro Form Deals, and Free Gear Rentals. So that is pretty sweet. Hopefully the job will be as cool as it sounds.

I was browsing through my old threads and saw this one. I got the job, and am getting trained on the 29th and 30th. I'm really psyched. I am only 17, and just walked in applied and they gave me the job. I know quite a bit about skis, and outdoor equipment though. That is really the only training I got. I'm not exactly sure what I will be doing yet, but it sounds like I start of at 7.70 an hour and will be working as a salesman for the Ski/Bike/Paddle section of the store. I hope the job works out!!

your a sales associete, not sales rep correct? Sounds pretty sick, its deffinitly a good way to get into the industry, i just dont like the 'department store' steeze that rei, ems, and other large sporting goods stores have. I would rather shop at a mom and pop small business. But REI does carry perception boats, and we all know that they are the best. period.

I'm pretty sure the correct title is 'Sales Associate' I basically chill in the store and help people figure out what they need. I would also rather work in a Mom and Pop Store, but those are all filled up. I love REI. Although it is defiantly like a 'Department Store', it is still pretty chill. It's definatly no Galyans, which is nice!! Also, when I move to Boulder hopefully, I'll be able to easily get a job at the REI there.
