my point was you have NO IDEA where she lives (ive gathered its Seattle) but you have NO idea where in seattle she lives... maybe she takes the freeway to work. maybe she goes through a rough part of town, maybe she is at work before its light out in the morning. my point was YOU HAVE NO place to be telling her "go ride a bike, blah blah blah, you're just lazy blah blah blah"

if you can ride a bike to work, cool beans, but im sick of people getting on NS and bitching that other people should ride their bike to work.

you are ENTIRELY missing the point. 

The point is not that people should live in ignorant bliss harming the environment.

The point is that you shouldn't go around criticizing other peoples' actions when you don't know the reasons behind them.  The problem, is that you think because someone drives their car to work they don't care about the environment, and that you should be the person to put them in their place.  For all you know, you're talking to an avid environmentalist.

The point is that sometimes there isn't another reasonable alternative to driving.  Like he said- you never know someone's circumstance or all of the factors that go into their decision.  Don't attack people when you don't know ANYTHING about what you're attacking.  You're jumping to conclusions about people.

You don't even know what my job is.

I work with a group of environmentalists, and I criticize them for the times they drive their cars into work.

You're missing my point. That external factors can only have so much impact on your life. To a certain extent, if you're driving a car to and from work, then there's yourself to hold at fault, via laziness, ignorance or possibly by ignorance by culture of victimhood (aka It's not my fault, it's my situation's). If you're as environmentally minded as you posit, then you should be complaining about the traffic lights that prevent you from getting your morning exercise in; when you drive three quarters of the way to work and walk the last mile that is. I can guarantee you that there are people in the same situation as you who take your situation and choose to bike it, walk it, or hell, even carpool it.

If you've been to Europe, there's lots of exemplars walking around for you. You see old ladies scootering (not the motorized kind) into work, with a briefcase tossed over one handlebar.

I suppose I will take your bait, though I am guessing (seeing as you keep claiming that "I don't know you") that it is a job that makes you feel good about your contribution to the planet, thus enabling you to drive around without feeling too much guilt. What is it that you do?

Have YOU been to Europe?  This example is completely irrelevant.

European cities are built very differently than American cities.  People live much closer to where they work, and there are more people living close together.  Mass transit is much better organized and very efficient.  The roads and sidewalks are much more pedestrian friendly.  America, on the other hand, has shitty public transportation, is very spread out, and often the streets do not accommodate bikes well (no shoulder or bike lane).

she always claims away about everything.... her 6,000$ camera whih her parrents are buying her if she stays in school for a semester, her conections with the ski industry ( shes a ski whore) her money her trips etc etc... these things dont make me jealouse I actualy find it funny how much she enjoys claiming, although it is irritating since she is always doing it. well today she crossed the line! I go on fagbook to see if any of my bros want to go sesh a handrail... none  of them are on... so along comes gab saying hi... I say hi, she asks me how im doing, I say not so great I cant ride this whole weekend because our park is closed because of ice. she goes on to claim about how she is going to ski at sutton and that it snowed hard and that there was a jam and how cool it would be. I blew it and basicaly told her to read between the lines and go fuck her claiming ass. best quote:

her: come talk to me when your in less of a pissy mood

me: yah sure, and then you can claim away about all of the great things that happen to you

The underlying point is, that humans CANT live a sustainable existence. We're not just going to wake up one day and be like OMG our ways have been so destructive!! Lets tear down our cities and replant forests!! It's way too late for that. Just live your life and cut all the preachy bullshit. Yes, earth will probably get so fucked that we go extinct. No, there is nothing you or anyone else can do. Even if we all started riding our bikes to work, it wouldn't matter at all. Its like trying to tell a dog not to be a dog, or a locust not to be a locust. You can't tell a human not to take the easiest/most efficient path available, thats how we've survived for millions of years, and the only way we know how to live. The criticism of others is hypocritical and unproductive. So knock it off.

car / truck/ boat / dirt-bike/ dh bike problems that i cant fix on my own. i hate getting screwed over by mechanics. no matter how "good they are, or how good their prices are ", i just hate dumping money into my trucks and toys if i cant do it myself , so if i can fix it myself, i do that and my day is automatically better . but even if i cant , maintain yo shit !
