That'd take less than 12 minutes to bike.
It ain't that hard to maintain 25 mph on a bike for ten minutes. Give it a shot.
No, it's not just you, it's the majority of people.
Sometimes hypocrits like to call people out on being "lazy" or "destroying the environment" by driving their car, rather than walking/biking. These people are jumping to conclusions about other people's lives, and making unfounded assumptions.
Riding a bike to work for me, would be inefficient, impractical, unrealistic, and downright impossible on most days.
a.) I dress up for work, i do my hair, i wear make-up. Riding a bike and getting sweaty on my way to work, is not an option- we do not have showers at work.
b.) I carry lots of things to and from work (lunch, files, purse, day planner, stuff pertaining to errands I can run on my lunch break)
c.) I run errands on my lunch break- something I would be unable to do without my car- especially when it's getting my oil changed.
On another note, you cannot possibly know the route from my house to my work- certainly not enough to know whether it's even bikeable. Not to mention, it's impossible for you to estimate the time it would take, seeing as you don't know the terrain.
Look- you've got a point- for SOME people, in SOME situations.
It's fine to say that it pisses you off when people who could easily walk or ride their bike to work, choose to drive instead. However, you shouldn't have responded to me when you said it- you don't know my situation, so stop pushing the point. If I say it's not possible, it's not possible.
If I had a more casual job, in the summer, with a less complex route, it would probably be a viable alternative- but that's just not the case.
The weight lifters/football players that walk around school with popped collars, push there chests out, and look down and check themselves out every 10 seconds.
no beer in the fridge
No, sorry- you're wrong.
I don't think him pointing out that it was uphill, was an adversion to getting exercise- i think he was pointing out that it can't be done in 12 minutes, and you can't maintain a 25mph speed- due to the fact that it's uphill and there are a ton of stoplights.
Secondly, there are no bike paths on the roads I take to work.
Thirdly, you're being RIDICULOUS! Just because I drive my car to work, doesn't mean that I'm completely oblivious to the planet! I don't understand your motive- I'm sure you've taken into consideration the fact that I might very well do more to help the planet than you- but for some reason you've chosen to disregard that thought and go on attack mode- even though you have no idea what you're talking about.
I don't know where you live- but I'd be willing to give anyone on this site $100.00, if they can reasonably ride their bike from my house to my work.
by reasonably I mean something that could be repeated on a daily basis- not a shit show of cars honking while you disobey every traffic law and manage to make it there in an hour.
Finally! A reasonable suggestion for me. I could take the bus- I choose not to because the Park N Ride is as far away as my work is, and if I don't get on at the Park N Ride then I'll have to make a million stops which would take longer to get to work- which means I'd have to wake up earlier.
So yeah- I could take the bus- I choose not to for convenience sake. Sue me.
