salomon or look/rossi bindings?

what bindings are better? lighter?

for me its really between TM bindings (P12) or salomon S912 Ti

- any opinions would help

rossy and look are basicly the same. and salomon are lighter(not by much) but ive heard some bad things about them from my shop. alot of returns and breakage

salomons are definitly lighter, but are also more prone to breakage... i've got looks on all my skis and am happy with them.

I have marker comp 1400 bindings. They prerelease. And I mean badly. You shouldve seen the bruise I got on my hip from the fuckin things, I was spinning on a kinked box and they just came off when it changed angles, I landed on the ski. Hurt like a bitch. Stick with Rossi, they work like no other binding I've ever tried.

jd: the comp series bindings aren't made for freestyle... the ti-series are, they've changed the biometric release just a little bit. I don't have a pair, but several of my friends do, and I haven't seen 'em pre-release yet

or maybe that's my hatred of rossi/look screws pulling out speaking

^Hmmm...maybe my lack of knowledge about marker bindings has done me in... I bought the comps cause they were mad cheap for some reason and they're on my beater skis. The TI is good for freestyle, you say? Interesting...cause I've based my opinion on marker from those 1400s, I figured they were pretty much the best marker made, so if THEY don't work...

it's a race binding man... think like look zrs vs pivot series, there's a big difference...

I know it *should* make sense that the highest priced is the best, but they aren't... their nicest freestyle binding is the ti1200 piston control, I think, unless they made a 1400 (we only have the 1200)

salomon is lighter than look/rossi. the salomons are very prone to slipping out of adjustment, I'd say look/rossi are more reliable.

if you plan on jumping or hucking cliffs do not buy markers....vertical release is a bad thing for those two aspects....i only mountlook/rossi binding, most reliable and longest lasting

Definitely *not* the most reliable, not from what I've experienced... the number of Salomon 912Tis I've had to send back for warranty for customers in the last 5 years=2. 1 was on a Pocket Rocket, and the wide brake on those sometimes gets enough torque to rip a heelpiece off (have seen it happen to all brands of bindings on them), and the other was on a shitty ski (AirTwist) that the core didn't hold one of the binding screws, the binding got a little loose and then the heelpiece twisted.

Number of look/rossi pivots I've sent in: More than I can remember. Their binding screws suck balls. As I said in another thread, they've improved in the last two years, but they have a lot lot LOT more to prove before I'll recommend a pair.

The Salomon 810 Ti sucks. Don't buy it. The look/Rossi pivots are ok. But they cost the same as the 912Ti, which is possibly the best binding ever made.

all the marker bindings i have ever had pre released. 3 of my friends this year have broke their salomon bindings. no one has broke look/rossis. just what ive experienced.

all you need to know is that the the Look/Rossi turntable design is the most solid and far safer than any other binding on the market. Most points of contact, highest elastic travel and 180 degree release in the toe. I have never prematurely released from mine and have yet to suffer from an injury related to poor binding performance since going to these... Don't get me wrong most bindings have their merits, but the performance and function of the Look/Rossi far outweight the others.

yeah ive broken my S810 Tis twice in two years - once i ripped out a heel peice and i just shattered another heelpeice (the din only goes to 3 now) so i think im just gonna get TM bindings with my new TMs. im just worried about the weight. do they come in titanium? how much heavyier are they than the salomons? is the difference even noticeable?

If you actually have trouble with 1300 gram bindings, you really need to work up your leg strength. Really. I don't notice it at all.

Get the TM look bindings - pivot heel piece is totally sick. I've got a pair of rossi freeride12s (similar to the looks) and they've never pre-released but relased all the times when i needed them to.

i've extensively used both the looks and the salomon ti bindings. the salomons are definitely a lot lighter and it's a difference you can really notice. with that said, the looks have better release characteristics. i can ride them .5 above my recommended DIN and have no prerelease/fail to release problems. i have to turn the salomons up 2 full DIN settings to achieve the same release characteristics as the looks, and i also have to check the toepiece every couple of days of skiing to make sure it isn't out of adjustment.

if the weight is a big deal for you get the salomons. for me personally, the ease of use, reliability and peace of mind i get from using the looks outweighs the light weight of the salomons, so i recommend looks.

i just picked up my second pair of p12s in mammoth on tuesday. you can't go wrong with looks. best binding ever made in my opinion.

^ same, i just picked up another pair of p12s for whenever i get new skis. the bindings just cant be beat. ive ridden salomon s912tis numerous times and hated it each time. every couple of runs the fucking toe piece would rise causing it to release with ease, or i would hassle adjusting it, and the heelpiece slid back a couple of millimeters for reasons i dont know.

i hate how the 912's sit so damn high. i have both the 912ti's and the marker 1200 free's and the markers are sooo much better than the salomons or look/rossi's i've ridden. the markers sit so low on the ski that you're basically standing directly on the topsheet. i think that makes them ride so much nicer. they're also the lightest binding i've ever felt. i had a pair on a set of blue 1260's and the whole setup weighed next to nothing. i have my second pair of 1200's on my new fujative's and they have the same effect. i've never had any problems with pre-release or anything. i'm 6'1" and 195lbs and have my DIN set at 8.5 so it's not like i'm cranking them way up or anything either. IMO they're the best binding i've seen.

stick with look/turntable binders. safest by a longshot. 7 years comp level and no knee injuries. never pre-release, and you wont have to crank the DINs to stupid pressures.
