So right now im applying for to be on a fire fighter crew this summer in wyoming and i was just wondering if anyone knows if they drug test when they hire you or anything. Any other information would be cool too being that I really dont know what im getting myself into.

they dont do drug tests, at least they didn't in alaska during the last few fire seasons. and ive never heard of them doing that anywhere else. Just be prepared to be carrying your weight, doing hard, rather boring but at times the most exciting work. Youll have to pass a pack test for the type I crews. if your trying for a hotshot crew then you have to pass a more vigorous pack test. have you taken the classes yet to get your red card? the classes should give you a pretty good idea of what to expect. plus youll be making bank... depending on the fire season of course.

^ what he said. I did it for a few season in Northern Cali. Super hard work, but worth it when you get to ski for the whole winter on the Uncle Sam Ski Team (unemployment)

yea. you might be gone for a while. they send you on 2 week trips at a time to other places (cali) if your fire season isnt bad. i was gone the entire summer cause i just lived up at my cabin because our office is pretty much in the middle of no where

if you have no experience dont waste your time applying to shot crews.
