It wouldnt surprise me in the slighest... although it is true that Canadians are better hockey players then Americans... we still make up over 50% of the NHL with the other 40% being European and that makes about what... 10% of NHL players being American thats gotta say something!

The US were the favourites going in. Lucky bounces I'd say. And Canada just not being able to capitalize on their opportunities. How many times did they miss the net on breakaways and 2-1s. I blame the whole Canadian team. We are pretty young though, so next year we should come back with a vengence.

WAIT wait wait... you were SERIOUS when you said Buffalo was good?!??!??!? HAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAA one of the worst teams in the NHl right now! Good american teams are Colorado, New Jersey and Detroit, not fuckin BUFFALO. Afinogenov is Russian... and he's really fast and has good hands, but he has Viktor Kozlov syndrome; he never scores as often as he should considering his skills. Plus he's injury prone. Satan will always be a better forward... so unbelievably patient, such great awareness, even if he isn't as fast as some europeans. By far the best sabre. But seriously find a better team for a feww years till connolly, pyatt, biron and briere grow up.

alright the US beat canada in the world juniors hands down, thats it, no questions asked, we just won thats final. Canada has fucking Crosby and Fleury. Crosby being the kid that Gretsky said might be the only person that might be able to break all his record and Fleury being the first first round draft pick. crosby didn't do anything and Fleury shot it at his own players head which ended up in an own goal........go canada.

I did make those rankings up myself, because statistics mean jack and shit in january... or at pretty much any other time. They give you some indication, but come on, according to the stats Mika Kiprusoff is the best goalie in the NHL! Try playing a hockey pool just by picking the guy with the best stats from the previous year. You'll lose. Badly.
And the reason you dont see detroit in 2nd in defense there is because when they get up 4 goals they stop trying. When they need to be they're better than ottawa. There are a lot of intangibles that stats just do not show. Anyways, those are my picks for top 5 in everything, and I've watched a LOT of games this season.
Feel free to make your own list... just dont expect to be worth anything if you read it off a stat sheet.

Crosby wasn't expected to do more than he did. Remember, most the players in the tourney are 3 years older than he is (which is a bigger deal than you think). Fleury was never really needed in the tourney, because the team in front of him was just too good. I thought he was pretty good against US. He mishandled the puck (costing him on the first and fourth goal), but aside from that he was solid.

what those stats mean is that ottawa is a super balanced team. like tonight's 5-2 win, for instance. they killed all their penalties, scored on 3 powerplays, and again, let only two goals in.
as well, they havent lost in ten games...and they have some of their better players out or unhealthy, like fisher and havlat.
