Ns email is pay only?

it says it's a free service, but the only two options are like 20 bucks or 40 bucks, and i try to go through and see if i don't have to pay, but it needs a credit card number

I'm pretty sure the email account and domain have nothing to do with Newschoolers.com the company. I thought it was a service that back in the day they made so we could be all cool and have @newschoolers.com for our address.

Why bother getting NS email anyway? It's a terrible service that ends up getting spammed to death. And the userface looks straight outta 1999. That is unless they've changed it up since I last used it a couple years ago.

^ They changed it. It still has crazy amounts of ugly ads, but I like having an @newschoolers.com address. It isn't as ugly as it used to be, and has a decent amount of room more than before.

You know its funny that you guys finally brought this up!

We had a free email service that has been around on newschoolers since the very beginning in like '99. Recently, they discontinued their free service, but let everyone keep their accounts. So we're not 100% sure what to do... if we switched services everyone might lose their email accounts... or might have to pay for a new one. We're looking into a few options but haven't found anything we really like yet.

Here's a question - would you guys pay for an @newschoolers.com email account if it was a super badass, functional service? This woudl include people who already have them for free.

If we want free emails to stay around then we need to stick with what we've got I believe.

How many of you still actively use your @newschoolers.com email accounts?

haha mine still works.

I wouldn't pay $20 just because I don't use it. However, to everyone that is bitching about "free" email. Pay for it. How long have you been on this site? $20 for a year? $20 for 2 years.... For as much time as a lot of you spend on here, donate, pay for it....

i have had an account for a while, and it still works and is free. i cant see paying for a service that is offered so many other places for free. money is tight for me, i have a hotmail and a gmail account that work just fine, i like to stick to webmail rather than pop3, its way less of a hassle.
i use my ns account but not very often just because everybody already has my other email address, also i preferr the interface of hotmail to the one ns has.

basically for me to pay for email from this site, depending on the price it better come with a shirt/lanyard/sticker pack/contributor status/etc... or else i just couldnt justify spending money to replace something i already have that works just fine.  if its not broke dont fix it right?

I do and it's my only email that I use. It's rad because everyone I know thinks I'm important to NS just because I have an @newschoolers.com address.
