Sit skiers

So I was at Smugglers Notch this weekend and while I was getting on the sterling lift I saw this kid probally 12ish and his dad the kid was on a sit ski. I didnt get a chance to say anything to the kid (idk what "mad props" prolly) but he was only a few chairs up. When mme and my friend got off the lift he was headed down a groomer (I dont know the name) and while waiting for my friend to strap in I got to watch this Kid lay down some respectable turns. Not much of a stry but it inspired my weekend.

yeah that kid shreds! im pretty sure his legs are fine though ive seen him ski normally. theres also a guy at smuggs who skis with one leg and another guy whos in his 90s and he skis like every day

yeah its amazing what some of the monoskiers can do, i just started being a monoski instructor this year and couldn't even make it down the hill on one without falling 3 times

I watched a one-legged skier hit the bottom jump line on the Gulch at Mount Snow, and those aren't the kiddie tabletops.  They're 40-45 ft.  And on one ski! I heard him call drop, then looked over and did a double take.  Good for him

There is a guy who skis at sunpeaks (Kamloops BC) and he has one leg so he skis on one normal ski and uses the poles that have the ski things and man does he ever rip. He is a good skier on one ski, he must have been absolutley amazing with 2. So inspiring to see that though, its great to watch him shred.

We have a one legged ski patrol at our mountain. Call him peg leg or peggy cause his other leg is wooden.  Unfortunately no one can admire him because he hates snowboarders, park skiing, people not snowplowing down the mountain and pretty much anyone thats not a complete gaper.

well if you dont elaborate enough, you could get standing up skiing on one ski, or sitting down skiing on one ski. personally, i think sitski is more "politically correct"

not to be a jerk but you are completely wrong. we had to go through a whole lecture on the terms to use/to not use and being politically correct for the organization im volunteering with. sitski does make sense but it's not specific, while monoski, biski, and dualski are different types of sitskis if you will

^come to think of it isn't monoskiing also the name for having one super fat ski with both boots pointed forward(ski boots)?
if that's what they're both called then i could see why it confuses people

i instruct sit skiing
i can say that sit skis include bi-skis and mono-skis
i'm pretty sure the original "sit ski" is kind of like a ski patrol toboggan and has very little mobility necessitating almost complete control by an instructor so it's kind of a confusing term
i forget what stand up skiing on one leg is called.
anyhow, these guys are troopers.  the woman i teach has cerebral palsy, yet she still has the motivation to get out every weekend and do 10 or 11 runs with me (on a bi-ski).

At my local hill there is this one guy, and if i remember correctly he was in a warren miller film a while back, but he actually makes sit skis. He is paralyzed waist down and he RIPS. I took some shots of him the other day on North Face, which at Alyeska Alaska is a pretty serious run. Very technicle terrain, Double black, basically aly's claim to fame since they have no terrain park really.
