Tanner does NOT compare to terje

ok so the thread about tanners influence being compareable to terje influence in snowboarding sufficeintly bothered me in order to make a new thread so that this can be heard:
Tanner can not compare to terje, tanner is a good skier, but his impact on the sport is totally different, and in no way as large as terje contribution to snowboarding. Im not denying that tanner cant ski big mountain or whatever, because he definately can. But... saying that tanner is as good an all around skier as terje is a snowboarder is just madness. Terje could make any big mountin ripper look like and amature out there, and tanner is certainly not even at the level of guys like morrision, hugo harrison, or any others. theres a certain untouchable quality that terje has in both his style, and his influence on the sport, that tanner doesnt have. I would say if anybody can be compared, its candide thovex for sure, this guy threw a d-spin 7 over a 120ft gap when he was about 16, and he had a pro model the next year, first freestyle skier to have pro model twin tip? in there with kris ostness for sure, and he still dominates with the same powerful tweaked recognizable style that is like terje's snowboarding. Candide has had a irrefutably large impact on our sport, (evidence, three movies doucumenting his skiing already made) and continues to ski how he always has, i hope you guys consider all this before you throughly try and smack it down, thanks for reading

I totally agree with that guy, Candide is the only skiier you could compare with Terje Haakonsen. Theyre both fucken legends and they both come down to NZ

people that compare to terje are more like jp and szocs and the rest of the canadian air force. Terje said fuck the olympics, so did these guys, tanner is just on top of the ski world right now, but he certainly was not always on top

Here's my thing about Terje. He was in it at the outset of snowboarding. He defined big air, the he defined pipe, then he defined big mountain. He's brought the sport to where it is today. I don't say it often, but we wouldn't been typing in a 'new school' fourm if it wasn't for snowboarding. and who's always led the snowboarders? Terje. Even the Quebec air force didn't have this beginning, they started new school but skiing and freestyle had always been around. Terje blazed his own trail. The only guy who comes close is Craig Kelly.

The point i was trying to make (or ask) was that in general in each sport there seems to be one prolific (spp?) person.
Golf-Tiger Woods, Ski Racing-Herman Miere, Base Ball-Babe Ruth, Bastket Ball-Micheal Jordan, Skate Boarding-Tony Hawke, Football-Pele, Tennis-Pete Sampras. Do you get what i mean? for each generation one person is the most exciting, the most progressive and pushes the sport further. And in my opinion i think its tanner, he has all the results and is still going strong.
Thats all i was trying to say.

the only guy who really is the same sor skiing as terje for sb's is seth. He really does huge shit since i can think of him. 10 years probably.

For sure, Terje is way more influential than Tanner...
Terje killed every part of the mountain, won pipe comps with sick smooth style, crazy first descents down 70 degree spinewalls, there was no one better at any part of snowboarding than Terje in his prime...
Craig Kelly was even more influential than Terje, cuz he was rippin way back when it started and killin the whole mountain.
But to compare Tanner to Terje is ridiculous. Terje did everything. Tanner is good at taking off and landing.

I don't think Tanner is quite what Terje was, but hes on the way. A lot of skiers are doing that, theres a lot of progression in our sport right now. I'd agree that Mike Douglas is more getting near what Terje did, Seth too.

Disagree. Douglas and Seth are by no means as all around as terje. You ussually dont see them rippin up the park, thats for sure.

Terje busted onto the snowboard scene 17 years ago. Once Tanner, or any skier is still the most recognizable skier after 17 years, then they will compare to terje.

why are all these old threads coming back and second of course you can't compare them, one snowboards, one skis. Skiers will never be as cool as snowboarders, universal law kid of like the fact that you can not go faster then the speed of light. It's just not going to happen.

haha, except tanner doesn't go huge like rice. i think jon could be considered too, just cause he's been at the top for so long, and he slays everything, and remember, if it wasn't for him there wouldn't even be pipe at x-games because he was the only one who did anything that first year while the rest of the competition was doing 5 foot straight airs. also, jon has done something that none of the other skiers listed here or even terje has done, win a big mountain comp. and for those who doubt his skiing ability, he used to ski in some world cup races, and is certainly better at skiing lines than tanner who always seems to be backseat.
