I'm at an age, where family roots don't really mean anything to me. Blood relations, so what? If you live 1000km away and I've seen you once in my life, you expect me and my family to pay your fucking bills?

Same goes for this Levin nonsense. While it can be a good conversational item about Blizzard of Aahhs and Glen Plake etc. being one of the influences for "pushing it", do you think many people care for trivial knowledge like this, especially when this is your attempt to make fun of younger, upcoming people in our sport? What you're throwing around with your weird ideologies is probably something, that the most important skiers don't care about: those who do it for the love for skiing. Believe me, there are full-fledged skiers out there, who even wear tall tees and they don't give a shit about your opinion, just as there are newcomers in the sport skiing in gaper helmets and jeans, enjoying themselves without bothering to answer your questions.

Recent skiing history can be relevant, but is anyone on this site SERIOUSLY going to get offended if a young, upcoming skier, looking up to his newer idols (Tanner, Pep, Wallisch, Pollard) does not know which year the 1080's were actually released?

I dont think the point here is to rip on younger kids as much as it is to educate them. Some of this stuff is fairly important for two reasons. The first is kind of a practical NS related thing. If more of the new comers to the sport know a little bit about the history of our sport, then there (maybe) be less polluting of the forums with BS because kids will already know where the sport came from.

The second reason is a little more big picture within the sport. There is something to be said about knowing where your sport came from and knowing where the progress AND the mistakes of the past came from. A few months ago a ton of people on here were debating harlaut's switch 1620. (Disclaimer: I am not picking on Harlaut at all here, he is a bad ass skier, but this is just the easiest example to illustrate what I am trying to say) Anyone who's been around long enough to remember the schrab brothers would know that the were doing this years ago (maybe not switch... but big spins in this range) and (with exceptions) were not very well respected at best. So when henrik landed his switch 16 (or even when schiller started doing switch 14s) it illicited 3 responses. Most of the younger kids were like holy shit thats the sickest thing ever so progressive blah blah blah. Then there were some who were like well no... the schrab brothers were doing shit like this and we didnt like it and we dont want to turn into ariels. And then there were also some who have been around who were super stoked about it because henrik took what used to be almost taboo and gave it awesome styly and made it respectable.

I know this has probably seemed like a long meaningless ramble... but the real point here... is for us as a community and a sport to know where we want the sport to go in the future... it is important to have some sense of where we came from in order to have an intelligent and worth while debate about where we want or dont want our sport to go in the future.

If I remember correctly, he rocked Langes in Nagano, which were painted Technica orange. He was sponserized by Technica, but painted some Langes because they are better.  Bring back the K2 winter heat....slap that graphic after next year's Extreme hahaha.

MCCONKEY was on the cover of the last freeze. NOT SETH. Mcconkey had never been on a freeze cover before, and they didnt know why, solved the problem with their last issue. ITS IS NOT MORRISON.

What ski remained pretty much unchanged from 02/03 (or was it 03/04) to over 4 years after its creation in the 01/02 season, even though its graphics changed every year and even had a name change.

These are all important things that happened. But lets be honest, what the sport has evolved from has nothing to do with what it started as. At least that is what I think. Stop living in the past.

Freeze is dead, greg stump movies are kind of like... cliche, JP Auclair is a genius, and to further prove my point Xscream 1080? Xscream? no thanks.

I like to live in the now, where the people running our sport arent old ass race jockeys. NO we dont need the olympics, yes we do need the Dew Tour, I forgot where I was going with this, just live in the now. Ask the questions of events to come, wiki's cant predict the future my freinds.

"aircarving" was the name of the 1080 promo video the new canadian air force released.  i don't think it was their marketing slogan.

also, this year's 1080 was released as the "10th edition".  do the math.

and yes, mcconkey was on the last cover of freeze.  it was the only time he ever got a cover shot with that mag, and it was sick.

Actually, what the sport evolved from IS what it started as.

This whole debate revolves around people talking about The Most Influential Skiers. If skiers don't know their history, they come up with ridiculous nonsense about who is most influential that is simply ignorant of the past. Learn some ski history, understand the roots of where the lifestyle you love are, and then you are qualified to comment on who is most influential.

And that cover shot of McConkey straightlining over ice patches is completely nuts.
