no you dont dude. i mounted my bindings last year
hear me out: this would work much better with 2 people...
1. find an electric drill w/ small bit (bit smaller than size of screws that hold your bundings in), a pencil, and duct tape
2. set up skis on workbench if you have one
3. take your bindings and put all the associated screws in a pile to the side
4. set up bindings on ski with boot in them (obviously not screwed in), slide to where you want the bindings to be positioned, using the boot to measure the distance from true center.
5. with someone else holding the setup (bindings + clicked in boot) color in the screw holes (where screws that hold your binding would be) of the bindings with the pencil
now you have a representation of the positioning of your binding via pencil marks.
6. take drill w/ drill bit and place along sidewall of ski to measure drilling depth. once you see how deep to drill, cover the remaining bit with duct tape. this way, you ensure that you wont drill past this depth.
7. its drilling time. **NOTE** MAKE SURE THE BIT WIDTH IS SMALLER THAN THE SIZE OF THE BINDING SCREWS!!! take the drill with only the certain amount of drill bit exposed and begin to drill out the pencil marks. its best not to force it, in case the duct tape doesnt hold up.
8. with all the holes drilled out simply line up the holes with the associated holes on the bindings and drill the screws in.
9. repeat on other ski.
10. and wallah!! you just mounted bindings!!!
this is the exact same way i mounted the bindings on my publics last year and they performed just as if a shop mounted them. it saved me some cash too!! i hope this helps. pm me with any questions
