College Pass Taken by the AUTHORITY

If you work for special tickets at squaw valley usa, now is the time to stop reading.

Long story short: my friend came up to tahoe with me to ride during our winter break at school. since the squaw college pass is a mere 300 bucks, it made sense to buy that for the week he was riding. he is planning on coming back over spring break to ride for another week.

Now things get knarled up. My friend let my other friend (out of college) use the pass when hes gone (he goes to school in LA). well, somehow, the non-college kid got caught. squaw called and said my boy can either press charges and keep his pass or not press charges and lose it. he was hammered and had a pretty incoherent conversation, but he said he would not press charges.

so, when he calls back, what excuse can he drop? i know some of you have experience, but basically he needs to convince special tickets that he had no idea, and wants the pass.

suggestions PLZ (even the most lewd and wild are appreciated)

umm your friend is fucked.

now what to do. press charges get the pass back then when it goes to court drop the charges. walla you have the pass back in your hands and no charges!

This is a tough one, and exactly why I never lend my Mammoth pass to anyone.  Your friend will have to convince the ticket office that he is devastated by his friend's betrayal, but that he does not want to press charges.  Explain that he did not know the other friend had taken the pass from him, but that he still feels wrong pressing charges. 

This is a very tough sell.  The special tickets office knows inherently that the story is bullshit.  This is why they use the press charges angle:  If you press charges it shows that you really did not know what was going on.

There might be another way, if charges can be pressed for a lesser infraction, maybe your friend can get away with a fine, and no criminal record.  Explain that you have no problem with your friend paying a fine, but that you do not want to press theft charges.  Explain that a fine would teach the kid a lesson, without screwing up his life and giving him a record. 

I would be surprised if you can talk your way out of this without some sort of punishment for your friend.  Ski areas know that people borrow passes, and they know what went on here.  They cannot prove you allowed your friend access to your pass, but they know you did.  If you do not punish your friend in some way, do not expect your pass back.

Key is, not to get caught.

being black listed sucks. actually... i've never been - but I could see there being an annoyance in it.

I know that in Whistler a friend used another friends pass and got caught. the pass holder got black listed until the friend who was using the pass wrote a formal apology letter and gave it to Whistler stating that they were room mates and the pass holder was unknowing of the fact he took the pass for the day (said he was at work or something like that). When Whistler received the letter they took the pass holder off the black list (list?) and put the used on the list.



I'd say that's your only option. Get the guy who got caught with the pass to write a letter taking full responsibility and clearing the pass holder.

Tell them your friend used your jacket and forgot to switch passes out of his jacket to yours thus he used your pass.

How did he get caught? Cause I know that I've had my fair dealings with borrowing/letting people borrow passes and whatnot. The lifties at SR are college and high school kids anyways so really anything can get by them, and I dont really know what happens when they actually scan them and whatnot, so I'm kinda curious.

resorts have started offering their lifties bonuses if they yank borrowed passes.

i've seen them ask what the holder's birthday is and shit like that.

at least that's how it is now at the vail resorts

if you press charges your a douchebag its your fault as well for letting the guy use it and pressing charges could have a pretty serious effect on that guys life

This happened to me and the kid said he left his jacket at a party and this other kid must have picked it up by mistake.  No charges just a misunderstanding.

definately the most legit reason at this juncture.  the kid who borrowed the pass should have been on his toes when he got pinched.  say, "oh shit i grabbed my roommate's pass by accident"  problem solved at teh scene.

Rule #1: don't get caught

Rule #2: if you do, have a simple excuse prepared

or press charges for a minimal thing, so no criminal record. and just pay back the money he had to pay you after the trial

I've borrowed friends passes when I'm home from uni all the time. How do you guys manage to get caught. You have goggles and prob a bandana on so I just dont see how you get caught

Exactly, how did he get caught.  Squaw has those electronic gates that scan your ticket when you pass through.  I havent seen any ticket checkers in line since they installed those.

It is not that simple.  The kid who lent the pass probably cannot get another one, and may not ever be allowed to buy a Squaw pass again.
