Avchd editting/conversion?

So I have a Canon HF10 Camcorder that I'm just starting to mess around with. I took some video and heres the problems so far
First i didnt realize that you needed a program that could work with the certain format. Once i found that the shitty software it came with supports that format, i tested it. I tried to edit, and it was terrible, it was soooo laggy, and the playback would play a second, stop for like 5, pick up for a second, then stop again (while editing). When i tried to view my final edit, it was super choppy and laggy and unpredicatable.
How can i edit these videos well? i have a PC. I can get any program. I need something good that easy but high quality.
Also, im guessing that uploading these videos to something, like facebook, won't work in the format. right? so what should i use to convert it (i guess this would kinda defeat the purpose of an HD camcorder though)?
I'm super confused. basically any info you can give me would be great!

alright. laggy? how fast/slow old/new is your computer? i would recommend using adobe premiere or pinnacle studio 11 plus. as for facebook converting, if you concert it to an .avi or .mov you should be fine

pinnacle is easier to learn then premiere.
i prefer premiere.
.avi would be better for a pc. if not then we could export to .mov.
sell your pc and buy an apple. :)

torrents
So do i have to record in the avchd format? can i record in something else that isnt as hard to work with, like standard .avi or something? i mean untill i find something that works well for me, this is going to be a pain in the ass.

and what i meant by laggy is that when i play the video in a program (such as adobe premiere) while editting, i hear audio, but the video doesnt play smooth, and if its a short enough clip, it never starts. Is this just computer based?

If you're camera is an avchd camera, it will only record in avchd. But im sure adobe would do something similar to FCP with my dvcprohd shots and covert to avi (FCP converts to mov) for you when you transfer.

yeah, i got a program that can convert it to what ever format i want
the thing is, i didn't get an HD camera to shoot everyday video, i want to get some nice, High Def video. so when im sending lacrosse videos to schools, they arent looking a pizelated videos, they see good stuff. so what i need is to figure out how to be able to edit segments and be able to see my edits just like i would run porn, smooth and clear. How do i do this? what weree you saying about rendering? whats what?
im fairly new to video, i know more about photo, but video im just coming into. thanks for the patience guys

avchd editing on a 1.5 gig ram machine. especially while running cs4 and after effects. isnt gonna work too well. good luck , thats why i went mini dv and not hard drive, HV30 is amazing. and cheap. and your gonna work with High def.

something else i would recomend is go to youtube.com and search hot too's with premiere. there are TONS.
have fun
its pretty easy learn the quick keys while editing. like space bar is play hit z , x, c , v etc. and youll see what it does.also project mangaer is a great resource its in your upper menu.

i would try converting your video to mpeg before editing. as for the quality, your probably gonna end up making dvds, not blu rays so when your footage is scalled down, it should better.
i know this would be kinda annoying but if your really searous about getting good footy, you could try to sell your cam and buy a hv30
