Petition ESPN - NO TEXT TO WIN

Who can we petition to take the text to win out of the X-games.  Can Mr. Bishop help us? He is one who helps choose athletes for the X-games.  Can John Symms help us? He works for EXPN.  Can Mike Douglass help us? How about Luke Van Valin?  Whoever can help us, we need it bad.  How does a double front flip beat a switch double cork 1260, or a switch double rodeo 1080, or even a Kangaroo flip?  This is just getting rediculous.  I could write for hours about how sad this is for our sport.  I mean, it is great that he is giving 10k to Riley Poor, there is no greater deed than that.  However, I am sure he could raise money to get that money for Riley anyway.   Do we really want double front flips becoming the new big air.  Next we will probably see a double back, which would soon be followed by a tripple back + 1080 (i.e. Triple Triple...you know where this is going). 

I hope the best for Riley Poor, I honestly do, but I hope that Simon never wins another big air again with a double front flip and a misty 1080 a la 2002.

I'm sure simon new he was doing to stupidest trick in the contest but he also knew it would win.  He know's how to make the crowds love him... too bad the people who actually know the sport don't seem to fall for it so often

What do you think of the "democratic system"? that was the biggest load of shit since last years big air. 99.9% of comps are "republican systems" and most of they are judged the way they should be, by a group educated upon the event they are watching not some little fuck down in South Carolina with a cell phone whos never even seen snow. First of all, Simon should NOT have even been in the comp, I mean how the fuck did he pull that off?! Then first of all for him to beat PK by a landslide..WHAT!?! Then I thought, maybe since Jon won big w/ voters against Jacob..maybe they would do the same and vote correctly for Jon...NOOOO, sorry Jon, you got fucked insanely hard (PK even worse cuz he could hace won)..thank you Mike D for speaking up for PK and Jon but it couldnt sway the vast majority of the ignorant viewing population..and thank you XGames/ESPN for making a contest that is completely pointless that some pipe skier with no right to be in the event can absolutely dominate it, not because he killed it, but because you decided not to have judges and instead put XGames gold medal hopes in the hands of any asshole with a cell phone..Thank You

sorry for dub post but while i agree with this logic (the fact that the flippy spinny shit is more difficult)
people who watched pipe, snowboarding comps, and who have watched any skiing on tv probably saw TONS of spins. most people not in to skiing probably would not have appreciated the value of the cork or the trick itself because so much of the xgames has been spin to win. anything similar to the dub front flip (i think) has yet to be seen this year. basically the people who dont know shit about skiing would rather see some showy slow rotations than pk's nasty cork 1260 which looks more similar to most tricks thrown at the xgames.

at least thats what i would have been thinking when i was 10

Completely agree. Text to win is a joke. I'm a bit confused though..... From this thread it looks like Dumont won THIS year's big air with a double front flip, when PK did his double cork 12 and Jon did the Kangaroo flip. Is that true? (excuse my ignorance, I was skiing instead of keeping track on NS, and I can't get ESPN here.)

just wanted to join the petition. woke up at 0330 last night to watch it live on internet knowing that it was probably going to be a farce (not to take anything away from simon dumont). change the format to K/O like Jon Olsson Invitational so more athletes can enter and get the judges back! maybe a few of the guys thought the judging wasnt quite right earlier in the season but they certainly know what they're looking at a lot better than the public!!

i agree 100% that was totally stupid! PK threw one of the sickest 12's ive ever seen and it wasnt even close between him and Simon. (like 85% to 15% im not sure) Even Jons trick was alot harder, also im giving props to mike douglas for attempting to set everything straight by putting down dumonts trick. (even though it was sick) I agree that one reason he won was because he was a crowd pleaser but i also think it was because he was the only american. The same thing happened in snowboarding too (but the american, i forget his name, threw the sicker trick) the final was like 92% to 8%. So i fully back the Petition to end text to win.

PK did an unbelievable double cork 12 and switch double cork 12, but lost to Simon's double front and sketchily landed 1080 mute. Jon beat Jacob with switch double rodeo 9 and switch cork (possibly slightly double cork) 10, Jacob did kang flip, and tried kang flip cruton, but washed out. Then in finals Simon won with double front and another 1080 mute while Jon did switch double rodeo 9 and 10 flawlessly. So, you're a little wrong, but you got the right idea. Check out jon's video blog i think every hit is on it.

Jon= Kangaroo Flip 900 and 1080(now called the olsson flip i guess)

PK= Double cork 12 high mute (one was switch the other wasn't) he shoulda won

Jacob Wester= Kangaroo flip

Simon= Double Front Flip with a super man in between and a Cork 1080 high mute

And yes simon won even though it was bullshit.

I know some people who voted 100+ times and it didn't sway the vote at all...there were more non-skiers voting than you think.

What I'm wondering is why Simon didn't even try to do something better than dub front. He has done dub front 360's, and that would have been a lot sicker and it still would be a crowd pleaser.

All you guys that are complaining just need to realize this is a business. ESPN is trying to get as any viewers as possible and also good ratings. How do you accomplish that? Get the fans invovled. Quite frankly ESPN doesn't care who wins or the few thousand of skiers that care who wins, they want money and people to watch. Us freeskiers are outnumbered so we can't always get what we want we should just be thankful we get to watch some double cork 1260. We still get superpipe and slopestyle, so what I'm saying is we should just watch Big Air enjoy some of the skiing and just disregard the results because we are too small of a group to get our voice heard ESPN is a business so they are trying to impress the General Public and not Newschoolers.com.

P.S. Simons frontflip on the ground was pretty sick why is no one talking about that.

I agree that the spin to win system was fucked and needs to go.

but with all the hate on simon, it didn't matter what he did, he would have won...i mean look at travis rice on thursday. It didn't even look like simon was trying to win, just goofing around.

so yea as said above a a million times, don't hate the player, hate the game.

Buddy you do you not realize that ESPN has the X Games and will have them until 2012. It because they like making money. I'm so sick over the past few days and past years while the X Games are being broadcasted how annoying and how much whining goes on at N.S. It's such Bull Shit. ESPN is attracting viewers by letting them decided the winner. ESPN promotes Simon and he throws a crowd pleaser and he wins... Who cares its Big Air and don't act like you didnt know who was going to win this event. America has and always will be a competion for money and thats why ESPN is competing with other TV stations for people to watch X. It's all business and they aren't broadcasting X Games Just for the few thousand that come on NS its for everyone that don't really get to watch skiing and what it is all about. One thing I do disagree with is 4 riders I think it should be a huge field and everyone gets 3 hits, but thats not how it is so I'm not going to make threads bitching about it. Shut the fuck up everyone Newschoolers is too small to get the X games changed. GO march around in Bristol Connecticut (ESPN headquaters) with signs and see how far that gets you. Just be happy we got SP and Slopestlye. Like Travis Rice said " X Games is just a big family reunion and we all jsut come back to have a good time and compete" So my question is why can't we just chill and enjoy watching a Double Cork 1260 and not CRY like little 4 year olds about who is winning.

Also enough bitching about Sal, he is a cool dude and he is trying his best to keep up and he does a good job annoucing. Yeah he is goofy but who cares. Dick Vitale is goofy everyone loves him. People are so picky and annoying these days. Sal comes on NS do you think he likes seeing he gets called a tool on here. Yeah critque him because he doesn't know as much skiing as you. I'm sure like when the Olympics come around and its swimming and its 500 race and they tell people its 20 something laps the legit swimmers aren't yelling at the annoucers because they are SO DUMB cause they are telling people how many laps there are.You people just need to enjoying skiing and stop whining about every little fucking thing. TV is a big business and its all about money they can't impress everyone... be thankful you can actually ski and can do stuff 90% of the world can't.

Take Dumont off of the front page, he is lame.  .  Simon is just a Shaun White, just not as good.  Get rid of the text to win, and please don't ever invite Simon to an X games big air ever again.  If you invite Simon, at least let another American in there, like TJ...who just destroyed Simon in Slopestyle, and then maybe more people will vote for an American who throws down hard, with some variety.

well he was the only one doing it, and he did it with confidence, it was really smart and really risky. If jon or pk or jacob had down a handdrag off that knole im sure people would have loved that, but in my mind he stepped it up and made it a slopestyle!
