Hellbent Sizes and Mounting Advice.

I'm 6'0 175 lbs. and looking for some bents.
probably mounting it +5 from reco with a bsl of 337.
Should I go with the 179's or the 189's?
I'm leaning towards the 189's, but I just figured I'd get multiple opinions.

yeah thats what i was thinking.
i ski a 178 anthem, so i figured it would be a waste to go only a cm bigger.

what kind of versatility are you looking for? the 189 hellbent is really like 194 (due to k2's weird measuring).  if i had hellbents i'd go for the 179, i'm 6'1" 165, because i'd like to get some more versatility, but if you're charging, and using them more exclusively in powder then go for the 189

hellbents measure like 5cm longer than the listed size but that being said they ski really short
i have 179's mounted at true center and i love them but i could see myself riding a 189

If you want them to be nice and playful and something that you can easily throw around with,id get the 179's, im around 510ish and ive got the 179s and their about 4 cm above my head,so depending on what you are gonna be doing mostly, id go with the 179's.And yes k2's run very long and ive measured mine and they are infact 185cm.

Actually its not ,if you measure true center exactly its about 1cm ahead of core center.

it wont be for hard charge or shredding massive amounts of powder, just sort of a decent, wider ski.

Hellbents are overkill for a "decent, wider ski". I love my 189s in pow, but they aren't much help on bumpy stuff or ice.

Mounted -1 from true center, by the way. 5' 8", 195 lbs.

well it will be technically be my "pow" ski, but we dont really have a lot where i am skiing most of the time.
so i want to it be a playful ski too, thats why im looking at a hellbent because of the tons of flex.
and because i really dont need a powder specific ski, thats why im also looking at a 179.

In all honesty man, I would get a pair of Bibbys for what you want...

I was in your boat before the season began, and tried out some Hellbents in the Summer. They are fantastic skis, but an everyday pow ski there are better skis out there. I found them to be heavy, a little unresponsive and the amount of Rocker is overkill on groomed.
So I bit the bullet and went for the Bibbys. I am so glad I made the call. The flex is perfect, amazing for buttering in deep pow, switch pow is easy, they are slightly stiffer underfoot and with less rocker they can be skied on all day everyday, unless I feel like hitting rails these are my ski of choice. So so light mounted with Jesters, absolutely insane skis. I would look in to them, they should be cheaper too.
If you're set on Hellbents though, I stick with my 189 -2cm from true recommendation.

I've never had more fun in the park, or anywhere else on the hill for that matter, than on my 179 center mounted hellbents. You can get surprisingly tech on rails with them too once you're comfortable on them.  I don't really ride my walls anymore because I just can't get off the bents. Just wanted to throw that out there.

Oh and here's a little edit of me and my friend and my first day on the bents (I'm in the g suit)

O yea, and you could go 189, but I think a 179 would be more fun for you. I mounted mine 1.5 back from core center. I would suggest the same, or more forward, no more back

179 the shorter the ski the more responsive in pow which really helps you in the trees. and unless you are going to ski park on them a lot  dont go for the completely center mount it will hurt you on groomers which my hellbents rip on. and you dont really need true center to land switch in pow because mine are in the middle of the mounting point and i get by just fine.

The Hellbent, especially in the 189, is definitely going to be less fun for you then. Out of powder, they are a lot of work to ski. Nice and buttery, but it's a lot of useless ski to push around.

You'd be much better off with something like a Bacon. It's lightweight, really fun to ski, quick, and skis pow just fine. Not as well as a Hellbent, but if you don't get pow much, then you'll regret not getting a ski that can do hardpack or old snow halfway decently.

Hellbents in the park are again way too more work than they are worth.

Don't get me wrong, I adore these skis in pow. Nothing better. But when it's not snowing, you're better off with a different choice, and that's why I'm still using them as a quiver ski.

i live on the EC and i've found that bents are tough in crud but that's it, everywhere else i didn't find them to be much work at all. they float beautifully in pow, hold an edge just fine on groomers, and are sick in the park or just fucking around doing butters and riding switch. the first day i rode my bents was just on hardpack while fucking around and i had so much fun
the next day i rode them in pow which was sick but it turned into crud which the bents really really don't like, the tips want to cross when you rip through and they flap everywhere and bounce you a lot. i wasn't having a brutal time but it was definitely more work to do gs turns in crud on bents than let's say prophet 100's

I'm going to jack this thread because I don't want to make a new one.  I just bought 169 Hellbents and I'm 5'4" and weigh around 120.  I bought a Griffon for it last night and want to know where should I mount it?  Does the size of the ski change where I should mount it, or should I just go core center?  I Will ride them in the park, but mostly powder.  75-80% pow and 25-20% park.  I am definitely going to ride switch a lot in the pow and jib tons of stuff.  So spins and jibs and switch in pow.  Where should I mount it?

i personally would go either core center or no more than -2 from core.
thats the only thing i've skied and it seems to be the common response here too.

I've never seen a more imposing ski than this year's bents in a 189 (They measure more like 195). That's a hell of a lot of ski to deal with.

With that said, you sound like a pretty big guy. If they're mounted somewhat close to center I'm sure they'd be a ton of fun.

179 I think, I am 5' 10'' and I rock the 169s people said that would be too short, but I have rode the 179 also and like the 169s much better. I ski them almost everyday...
