24p help!!

i have an hv30 and i normally shoot in 60i but i decided totry 24p one day. sice the hv30 doesnt get native 24p i have to remove the 3:2 pulldown (right?) i looked everywhere online but it doesnt seem like there is a simple 60i to 24p converter. they are all so long and complicated. can anyone help me out? eheath?asian allen? here it is rendered to 30 fps

i use a program called tmpgenc 4.0 xpress, and i have a great workflow for removing 24p with that app

Regardless.
If you really need help then use dvxuser.com. Doesnt matter what camera your talking about, everyone on there knows like everything. Your question will for sure get answered there man.

If you know the panning rules for 24p and know how to shoot it, it looks great.  I shoot 24p exclusively for everything.  Combined with the proper shutter speed, 24p looks really nice for action sports.  IN MY OPINION, anything besides 24p looks like barf, I can't stand that silky smooth motion, blah.

anyways, go to www.hv20.com .  That site has loads of tutorials for removing the pull down.

yeah the 24p vs 30p vs 60i debate with action is tough. It depends on your style I think. When I'm shooting pow and jumps I shoot 60i with a high shutter for the slow motion, and if I'm doing follow cams I shoot 60i as well because of the fact that it's shakier and it is easier to focus. If people are hiking a rail though and I can setup and everything then I'll go 30p or sometimes 24p. It's all about your style of filming.

Ha ha yeah. I just opt for turning my 60i dvx footage into half resolution 60p footage. Boom!

for super slow motion:

shoot 60i w/ at least 1/120 shutter speed. (Faster works better)

Capture the footage normally.

Bring into after effects, set the timecode base to 24 in your project settings.

Set the frame rate to 24 in the comp settings.

In the interpret footage menu change it to 24 fps and then "separate fields" to "lower first"

Drop the clip in the comp, do a time stretch (layer menu) and enter 200%.

Add to the render queue and enjoy.

THANK YOU!!! everyody is always like "meh meh 24p looks bad". 24p looks sooooo much more realistic and raw. i have been watchin a bunch of 24p vids latley and i was like im done with 60i

Unless 60p or 60i is slowed down, I think it looks very amateurish and cheap.  If you can shoot 24p, do it.  Before I get jumped on, this is my own personal opinion, just want to make that clear.

Yeah we all have reasons for shooting the way we do. Some filmers are run and gun and always in the action and need to be able to be super flexible with everything, and some are set up with their tripods every time and just kinda perch at a certain spot. I'm somewhere in between and I vary my shooting modes.

24p over crank is alot different then straight up 24p. I like 30p usually for filming but i also like shooting jumps with 60p so i can slow them down. But its nice to be able to have 35min of recording time vs 17mins of recording time (30p vs 60p).

I dont think this is fair to say unless you give some factual evidence. What do you mean by "skippyish"?

I have filmed a lot in 24P, I like the look of it. I've filmed a lot of skiing in 24P, but I don't slow it up or anything in post prod. If you think it looks skippyish it could be because a lot of people do a very sloppy pulldown process.

Shot it on the HPX170 in 24p.  The slow motion shots were 60 frame over cranks.
