hey dude, might be able to help you out!
first of all.. SICK that your school asks you to do that? great school!
I've arranged tons of railjams in sweden! made a railjam tour with 8 stops in 8different citys when i was 16! haha so i guess i can help you out on some points!
but what is is that you need help with? got snow? rails? all of that stuff?
and yea, you need permission to host a jam on that spot where it's supposed to be.. is it at your schools property? if thats the case then talk to someone in the staff and they'll help you out i guess?
write down what you need help with.. and ill do my best to answer!
and yea, is there going to be sponsors involved? as for prizes and stuff?
yo thanks man thats sick...
yeah basically what happened is during some student council meeting yesterday(of which i have nothing to do with) they came up with the idea of having a rail jam. Eventually my name was brought up because im know in my school for being involved with skiing more so then anyone else. So they asked me for my input and to help out on it, which im pretty stoked on. It will be the first time they have any event like this and its still a very early in working things out,
but their plan, as it was explained to me is to (considering its the first one and i go to a small private school) have it closed to only kids in my school. which i think might kill the possibility for publicity...> sponcers...> and real prizes as a result. Its the first time and im not expecting it to be a huge deal or anything. Ideally, if it works out well we might try to push towards bigger and better events
were planing on having it on the front lawn of our school where we have about 1-3 feet of snow. There's not a definite plan for rails yet, but i believe were trying to get them from the a nearby mountain (35 min away) where another kid that is involved works on the park crew
We have permission to try to make it happen from the principal but in order for it to all go through we need to have some liability type things worked out, because obviously our school is not a fan of getting sued. thats mostly where im at right now is trying to find out how wavers work?? like its there a general one and how do we make one that is lagit so that the school wont end up getting sued??
hm.. well.. since i live in sweden (where we dont sue people all the time) i actually have no idea about that?
What i do when i do railjams is that i go to the police, asks them to help me out to get permisson for hosting a jam on a spot.. and then they just give me som papers to fill and a phonenumber to the owner of the ground. then i just call them, asks if its okay to host a jam there and say that we'll keep it clean and make sure everything is leaved as it was before we came..
if you have intentions to play music, you might just get and ok from the police too.. because there is loads of people that gets pissed if someone plays music on a high volume.. haha
thats how we do it in sweden.. might just be totaly different at your countriy, with all the laws and such.. but ask the police! thats where i would start..
An other thing to think about whey you make an event is that there is not that much work to make it happen.. what you need is just some snow? and you allready have that.. so thats not a problem
then you need rails! to ask the near by resort is the easyes.. and thats allready fixed to?
so, then there is just some music left? get a pair of speakers, a microphone and some music.. if you dont own one, or knows anyone ho do.. just go to the neaarest music store.. and ask if they can just let you barrow some stuff, if not.. get som money from the school to pay for it!
and thats pretty much it! make sure you get speed for the rails to.. sometimes its to flat to get speed.. and that sucks, so get a ramp or somthing to get speed from!
make a nice lookin poster in Photoshop, write down dates, add a pic of a skiier and put them up everywhere in the school..
thats pretty much it.. hopefully you got somthing out of that! and excuse all grammar and spelling misstakes.. im from sweden, so it feels kind of wierd to write in english.. but i did my best!
good luck bro and i hope you have a great jam!
