Video Cameras

There are so many options for video cameras, and I don't need a crazy good one, what are suggestions for the best ones under 500$? People keep saying go with the hard drive camera, is that good advice? Thanks

hard drive cameras arent really the best. Look at some mini-dv cameras. you can get a gs 3CCD series for under 500$ like the gs320 or gs500(might be getting pricey) Or you can look at the canon hv20 (HIGH DEFINITION) but they can run for more, but get a better quality.

super dope camera and price indeed, the only problem is my laptop is a toshiba and does not have a connection point for a firewire, which I found out after it was bought for me. is there any other way to get footy onto my laptop?

get an hv30. same camera as the hv20 but you can shoot in 30p which can be usefull with shooting sports. its the same price and its black so it looks way sicker.

Uhm yeah.. you can use a usb cable? Not sure if he has one but Im sure you do from some thing else.. or you can get one for a few dollars

To capture HDV or DV you need firewire. USB can be used if your using a HDD or flash memory based camera, but not with a MiniDV tape based camera.

You can buy a PCMCIA firewire card though if your laptop has a PCMCIA slot (most do).

yea you can't use usb, but some pc's have a little 4-pin firewire port (identical to some of the motorola cell phone chargers and the same exact port that is in the camera) and you can import with that you just need to buy a 4-pin to 4-pin firewire cable. Not call pc's have that though.

um im pretty sure i know what im talking about i have an hv30. I know you can use a usb 2.0 cable because i have done it. and yes the hv30 is essentially the same camera as the hv20, it just have updated firmware and can shoot in 30p

Just a heads up...I have a GS320 as a b roll camera, and yes, you can capture with a usb cable...
